Why does this site log me off so quickly?

If I don't post or at least refresh this site every 3-5 minutes, it logs me off. Is this a setting I can change? It's just really aggravating to leave the computer for a few minutes, come back, be logged off and have lost having the new posts highlighted.

I know on other sites the post stays marked until you actually read it regardless of being logged off. Is that a possibility or a good suggestion?

Don't know. I've never had that problem. How are you connecting and what browser are you using?

This is another thread that is similar, although it sounds like your issue is a bit different.
I hessitate to write anything, but here

Do you have multiple browsers set up on your pc? If you do try it on another browser and see if you have the same issue. To me this sounds like a browser issue and would possibly appear to be a setting to automatically delete the cache, temp files and cookies in your setup, or possibly even a font setup issue on your browser, possibly caused by an update or something. If you have a unsupported font, it may only display one and not the highlighted, but you would likely never have the highlighted text.

FYI, although my session logs out like mentioned in the other thread, I do not lose the highlighted portion unless I delete the cache, or mark forums as read. Do you have your browser set up to autmatically delete the cache. Also, try deleting all the temp files and cache from the option menu, and check to make sure it doesn't automatically.

Also if this doesn't help, mention what browser you are having the problem on. If you do not use IE, try it on IE just to find out for sure. And if you have IE, which version?

edit 1 - You may also need to raise the allowed cache setting, as if it is too low it will create the same problem in deleting out the old to quickly leaving you with the same effect.

I only have 1 browser, and I'm not set up for the automatic deleting you've mentioned.

This is the only site it happens on, so I'm wondering if it's site related??

I did a final edit, which may be your problem, or may not. Since you have one, I assume it is IE. This is for IE 7.0, but likely the same for prior versions as well, go to Internet options, then to browser history Settings. Set this up for a really high number, assuming you have the Hard drive space. If it is already defaulted to like 1024 (1Gig), that is likely not the issue. If it is set at only like 50mb, raise it up to a Gig and see what happens. If you have limited hard drive space, this may be the problem as well, as it will allow less space and likely slow down your PC. Also delete all of your Browsing history files. Realize when you do this, and the cookies are deleted, you will need to retype login info next time you go in to sites. It could likely react differently for different forums that are not using vBulletin, or even with different versions of vBulletin. Sling is using 3.6.4 as listed at the bottom of the site.

I see you joined here back in Oct., did you update to 7.0 before then, and did you have the same issues on 6.x? I can't remember when 7.0 came out, but was close to that time. Or did this issue just start happening recently a while after installing 7.0, or while using the same browser? Again, assuming you have 7.0?

If you want to eliminate any doubt of it being your browser, you can download Firefox for free at
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
and see if you encounter the same problem.

... also, I am not sure of your level of computer experience, but if this stuff is second nature and you are sure it is not the issue, let me know.

I'm using IE 6.0 SP 2.

My Internet Options/History setting gives options of days, not space. It is set to 1 day which works fine for other sites.

Ok, maybe not but, you are the only one having the problem so I suspect it's on your end.

Try deleting the cookies and cache (temp internet files) then log back in.

Yeah, posting from work, but not at a bank...my company on a stand alone computer.

Yes, this happens at home, also, on IE 6.0 with a cable connection.

Check your security settings in IE as if they are set too high then they will prevent cookies from working.
