Braves, Indians, Blackhawks and Chiefs all come to mind for me immediately as well. I’m sure there also could be some minor league teams and schools with ‘suspect’ names. The Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League have started taking heat up here too. I’m kinda indifferent to all of this as well, just wanted to comment after the Redskins name change was made official...

I just have mixed emotions about it I guess. Either the teams will change their names or they won’t. Personally I like how Chicago is handling it. There is historical significance to the name so they want to keep it. But now will do much more moving forward celebrating that history and teaching more about it. I just like that idea.

Seems like every time I hear about someone asking how Native Americans feel they're like "we really don't give a shit."

The high school in our community has been the Indians for decades. About three years ago, a femals Caucasian professor at our university decided this needed changed. The gentleman who did the artwork for a large mural in the school was half Cherokee. He thought it was an honor to have the Indian name. The person who initiated the Indian back in the 40's, was a full-blood Ute. He, too, thought it was an honor. After months of everyone screaming at each other, it was decided to leave the Indian name alone. That was until a couple weeks ago when the Redskins discussion got hot again. Now, one of the people on the school board thinks the Indian name needs to go away. Nope! Aren't asking any Native Americans. We have a large reservation to our north and a college for Native Americans just to our east. Not one negative word from there. Seems most of the impetus to change is coming from Caucasians in our community who were not even born and raised here.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Like many others I’ve yet to see or hear a single Native American say boo in the topic. Come to think of it, I can’t think of a single Native American in the public view, either political or otherwise...and no I don’t count Elizabeth Warren. Maybe they just really don’t give a shit and want to be left alone, just like they did a few hundred years ago when they first got screwed.

Now, with that being said most of the indians I have talked with here don't give a shit. They don't like the Redskins because of Schneider. Ironically a lot of them like the Cowboys.

Maybe all the Native Americans just laugh because they're not even Indian because this never was India.

I broke down and asked my Native friend for his perspective. This is a direct quote:

"I see both sides, it don’t hurt me. I think it’s crazy people are putting importance to the African community. Chris Rock said it best “when do you ever see a Indian family together”

I feel for the owner, he has to change all is shit, especially when money is tight."

I might need some time to digest that.

I stand corrected. I’ve seen very little here in the great northeast regarding Native Americans and their stance. I guess I need to listen to more than day old podcasts of Golic & Wingo.

On a completely unrelated side note, I’m kissed ESPN took Golic off the air. Bad move imo.

My mom had a white cat she named WC. Stood for White Cat. This is a lot like that.

Gotta love the irony that in a time that the country is really divided along red/blue lines, a team based in our capitol takes heat for a racist name and is now playing under possibly the most generic name ever. And people are still offended lmao

And sports stupidity continues on. "Hey, let's re-name the team twice just for the fun of it!!" I'll say again, it's a shame we can't fire the owner.

I find it kind of humorous. With all the previous attempts to get them to change their name, you would have figured that they have a plan in place for if/when someone put enough pressure on them to change it. Of course, judging by their on field performance, planning does not seem to be this owner’s forte.

The owner's only forte is to be a douche who gets in the way, causes internal conflict, and assists heavily in making the team inept. If fans could fire an owner, he'd be long gone, sorry piece of :poop:. Btw, your comments are spot on. No excuse for the lack of new name.

Amen Brother. Snyder has finally run this team all the way into the gutter. Unless they start winning, they will remain a dumpster fire.
