I disagree. I think the true attraction of the game is the skill level, fitness, and raw talent to be able to make the round ball sing, that the players display. And I would bet that 99% of people who love football would love it for those reasons alone...

For the record I'm not a fan of diving or simulation and wish that it could be banned from the game.
I meant the style of competition within the "fantasy soccer" with the whole salary deal...

Soccer as a sport is fine...

Sorry champ, completely misconstrued your posts. My apologies. Not the greatest style of competition, you're right. But unfortunately there aren't any other options for football.

The only other thing I can think of is just a straight tipping competition for those that want to enter and I can donate a prize to the winner come May next year... If anyone is interested in this they can also let me know...

I very much enjoy watching soccer. In fact, I'm watching FSC right now with Reading and Liverpool playing.

But, I would NEVER use the word "pansy" in referring to American Football and its players.

Pansy??

Wow, some of the soccer players are about as big as my mom, they grab each others hair like girls, and you call American football players pansies. . .LoL
Sorry, must've found it offensive. . .

I would love to play in this league..... been watching the EPL, and specifically Liverpool nearly every weekend for more than 15 years. The internet, and FSC, make this much easier than it was back in the 90's.

So... count me in!!!!

soccer is ok for 4-9 year olds.......gets them involved and introduces them to sports,...but after that they need to play real football, baseball, etc.

I have coached soccer for about 3 years now....and as my daughter gets older, more and more boys quit to play football....rec dept soccer and football seasons are at the same time.

Its quite odd.

But wouldn't it mean you had to actually watch the games, or is it matches?, to know how you're doing?

That leaves me out right there!

Wait a minute! Hold on just a second! Why wouldn't you watch football? It's just the greatest sport ever! Hold on...is this a posting for soccer? Oh boy! I take it back, If I had to choose between soccer or a gay porn DVD, I'd pick the DVD;). I'm sure I'd see soccer on that! One more thing, and this is real important...God bless America:usflag:and the REAL game of football! Go Giants! (I've been a Giants fan all my life so I usually get ridiculed for saying that)

I'm a bit of a soccer nutter (that's fanatic) and I never preach to convert anyone... but I do corrections when I come across uneducated posts/comments, etc.

I've been a soccer player (at a pretty high level, youth travel team that won some tournaments where we beat two state champions for our age group) and a soccer fan my whole life.

It is truly the world's greatest sport, and by far the most popular. In fact, the global TV audience for the 2006 World Cup Final match (yep, just one match) eclipsed that of the global audience of the last 10 Super Bowls... combined.

I understand that the game will never, ever be greater than the #5 sport in this country, behind the NFL (that's hemetball, pointy ball... you simply cannot call it football when ony two guys on each team actually kick the ball) MLB, NBA and NASCAR -- and there is a long road ahead to even get to #5. But.... Major League Soccer is light years ahead of the NBA when the NBA was just 15 years old. Bigger attendance, newer stadiums, better TV ratings, franchise worth after adjusting for inflation, etc. Sure the population is bigger now, especially the immigrant population, but there are far more entertainment outlets now as well.

That said, the quality of the coaching is horrific in the USA, and is a large reason why the US Mens National Team's biggest success is merely qualifying for 5 consecutive World Cups (still better than England, Mexico, Holland, and several other big nations) and making it to the quarterfinals in one of them, 2002. The players are not coached well when they are young, and many leave the game. Despite the huge population, the game is in it's infancy in many ways.

The first USA game I ever attended was in 1984, in St. Louis. They played in stadiums that held about 6,000 people then. I've also been to recent USA v Mexico World Cup Qualifying matches in stadiums holding more than 20,000, and 95% of the tickets sold out during private online sales to those who have been registered with the US Soccer Federation before going on sale to the public.

Singing the National Anthem at the biggest Auto Race in the world, the World Series (been to 4 of them) NFL games, NBA Playoffs, even an NCAA Final Four, pales in comparison to singing it with 20,000+ soccer fans at a USA v Mexico game.

The Brits on the board will no doubt tell you about seeing their conutry play its biggest rivals in front of 70,000 rabid fans. The atmosphere is fantasitc.

I've been to all the sporting events mentioned above (except for England of course) and I was even in attendance when Cal Ripken tied and broke Lou Gherig's record for consecutive games played.

That was one hell of an event, but none of them compare to a top quality International Soccer game in my experience.... when you have much more than one city playing against another city, or one school playing against another... you have entire countries (or in the USA a just as rabid fan base, only smaller) sitting on the edge of their seats for 90 minutes. There is a reason fans sing for 15 minutes after a goal.... they are damn rare and that is a GOOD thing. A GREAT thing really.

But I'm in the minority for sure.

You can have all the Gay DVD"s you want.... just don't mindlessly bash another sport. We don't want to supplant the NFL or MLB, or the NBA..... but just want to find our place behind those sports and enjoy the juego bonito..... The Beautiful Game.

Cheers,
Bryan in Indy

Couldn't have put it better myself.

And the only reason I called the NFL pansy is because of all the damn padding they wear. Australian Footballers get hit just as hard with no padding whatsoever. Not bashing the NFL as I do enjoy watching it.
