My cousin is a dual Australian/US citizen. She speaks glowingly of Thanksgiving. I understand it's one of the only special times of the year that hasn't been commercialised to death and still retains a special meaning.

This is very true, but it is over run by the start of the Christmas shopping season.

Which is why I greatly prefer Thanksgiving to Christmas, and am frequently relieved when Christmas has passed.

What I don't like is that thanksgiving (my favorite) is being swallowed whole by Christmas, which I don't particularly care for. I like thanksgiving because I get to cook, everyone has to pretend they like it, and everyone in my family from Mass to NJ to Denver all come home to be together.

Holidays are what you make them. Just because Christmas has become commercialized doesn't mean you have to join in. Christmas is my favorite. I like Thanksgiving well enough and it's good to see family, but I LOVE Christmas.

For me:
1. Christmas
2. July 4
2. Father's Day

Yes it's a tie for #2
