I'm building my daughter a new set of clubs, she outgrew the youth set I bought her 2 years ago.

I have a R580XD head that I am going to sand the paint off of and plan on painting it pink-her favorite color.

Anybody painted a club head before? Whats the best paint to make it look sharp?

Not sure about paint type, but make sure you get a small roller. A big one would just make a mess.

You gonna clear it as well?
Probably. My daughter wants a pink driver head and this head is just sitting here.

Thinking pink model paint and then clear coat. Should look kinda cool actually!

Squatch-- I have been experimenting for a few years now and have done a few that I am proud of. It takes patience and practice. I use a spray on paint stripper called "Rustoleum Aircraft Remover" (Wal Mart - Auto Zone). You have to tape off the ferrule and shaft and any surface you do not want stripped, cause this stuff is evil. It will remove most factory finishes with two applications and some wire brushing and a single edge razor blade for the stubborn spots. I then sand it down so that all you see is bare, dull titanium. The hard part - masking off all the areas you do not want painted. This takes many tries/lost of practice. I use 1/4" masking tape to cut the lines that are important, like along the crown/face joint. The I use full width masking tape to cover the sole. Use some mineral spirits to clean the area to be painted. Let it dry and prime and then paint. I use Rustoleum products and clear coat when I'm done. I'm not pro, but this a TON of fun. My latest.........the Chicqita PING G10 (I used this driver today with subsonic) and the Orange Crush Superfast 2.0. Neither of these are my best.....I'm still getting better at it.

Rustoleum, spray paint or with a brush?

Also, I'm not Limp (hehe, at least that's what I told her!). I'm squatch!

I just fixed the name, sorry Squatch! If you want even mediocre quality, spray paint is necessary. Carefully apply primer and then a few thin coats until it is covered. Taylormade paint is a BITCH to remove, so be patient. The other thing you could do is buy the paint/color you like and send it to me with the club - I'll be happy to do the job for ya - no charge. I need more practice. ;)

Appreciate the offer! I may take you up in that. The good news is that it's just a club head (fairly beat up too) at this point. I'm glad you chimed in, I was just going to hand sand the head. :)

I will have to see if I can find the color I'm looking for. Thanks!

Oh and no worry about the name...someday I'll ramble on like Limp!
