All the talk about captaincy for the next Ryder cup had me wondering which competition the members prefer - Ryder or Presidents Cup?

Is there a real difference in the standard of play?

I marginally prefer the Presidents, but thats cos i'm :australia. The simple fact of the matter is that the Presidents will never be anywhere near the magnitude of the Ryder because of the history. The Ryder is just a tighter, more thrilling competition because of this.

Theoretically it should be harder for the US to win the Presidents coz it has the Euro's plus the Aussies, NZ'ers, South Americans and Africans. In reality the US win this easier because the camaraderie of the Internationals isn't there like the Euro's have in the Ryder and the US play with each other every year.

In saying that, it was great to watch the Pres Cup 1998 when it came to Melbourne, even if it was in 42*C heat (105ish*F). Nearly died! Could've quite literally spear-tackled Tiger while he was standing over a putt. Or grabbed his putter on the back-swing. That would've been awesome!

I marginally prefer the Presidents Cup also but I do love watching the Ryder Cup when it's played in the UK. The atmosphere is great.
