Anybody catch this one on ESPN?
I graduated from SMU in 1975, and while I didn't really run in that crowd, I did sit around the bar in the Dallas Petroleum Club or the Tower Club with some of them occasionally (they were buying). I really enjoyed Mondays when the Ponys were hot; can't testify, but I'm pretty sure that Gov. Bill was more involved (and MUCH more arrogant) than it showed. They did a pretty good job of capturing the "spirit" of the boosters back then. I'm the by-god Governor of Texas, I'll do what I want! We were tired of getting beat in the early 70's and just decided to "get" a team. It was really a good run, and we got ourselves busted!
The idea of giving the Heisman to Cam Newton then a two hour documentary of how SMU got killed is supreme irony.
