I have the CS-3 with neutral weighting, 10.5 degrees with the regular flex Aldila shaft, and to tell the truth, I am somewhat disappointed with it.

The weights are NOT adjustable, even by a pro shop, so what you buy is what you are stuck with.

I am very inconsistent with this driver and even when I hit the sweetspot, my max ball flight is 250 yards.

I have a launch monitor appointment tomorrow; after I go, I'll let you know whether it's me or the club.

If the Big Ben keeps pissing me off the way it did yesterday, the review will consist of "It felt so good to smash the head against a large pine tree."

Not to be a nerd, but this really should be in the Equipment Forum.

    Just FYI.

    I'll move it soon enough.

Launch monitor session today. Geez, I feel like an old man.

    Hogan Big Ben CS-3, / Other 12 degree 460cc,
10.5 degrees, Aldila 70gm regular flex / 45 gm, regular flex
    Ball speed/mph 115 / 119
    Clubhead speed/mph 82 / 86
    Launch angle/degrees 17.8 / 18.6
    Backspin 2678 / 2790
    Sidespin 49 rpm / 180 rpm
    Distance/yards 202 / 217
    Swing path/degree -1 / -3
    Azimuth -3.8 / -4.8
    Face Angle -3.7 / -4.8
    Flight time/sec 5.9 / 6.3
    max height/yard 28.2 / 33
    off line/yard -11.8 / -11

We are going to start by cutting the Big Ben 1" as my swing is very flat with this standard length driver. Will pick it up on Friday. Until then the shop owner loaned me a persimmon Louisville Smart 2. :D

Actually, while I know what azimuth means, I do not know if my measurement was considered good, bad, or average. I was more concerned about the pitiful distance measurement.

This driver in "stock" Aldila shaft is 45". What length shaft do most people here use?

Keep in mind that the computer was probable set to factory so no wind and completly flat ground so little roll.
Most of your numbers were ok. The offline 11 yds needs to be corrected:)

    rim shot!

    Good one! :)

    Yep.
    Roll/Bounce Off
    Elevation 0 ft
    Temperature 72
    Wind none

See, that's my excuse. The altitude here is about 270 ft and it's always hotter than 72. Normally I'm a 300 yard hitter. :D

While my Hogan is being cut down to size, I borrowed a persimmon Louisville Smart driver, just because they are so pretty.

Today at lunch I went to the range, and hit the Louisville about like I hit my old driver.....210-220. Then one of my clients walks up to say hello (he's a police officer who works mostly nights and plays golf EVERY day) and sees what I'm trying to swing and he got all excited: he hasn't seen a real wood club in years and wants to try it.

He takes one swing and puts a high draw about 300 yards.

    I feel so unworthy.

I also play with a Hogan - and have a real love/hate relationship going with it.

Right now it's getting a UST V2 shaft in it. I think this high kick, low torque shaft outta be just the thing for that head. I'll let you know.

    Ben Hogan CS3

I purchased this club because of the smaller head size. A friend of mine (handicap 5) had been playing one for quite some time and was (still is) very impressed by it. My only problem with this club was that it hit the ball too hight for my taste (even with only 9.5 degrees of loft). I took it to my club maker and after quite a bit of analysis and discussion we agreed on fitting a grafalloy prolite 3.5 in a regular flex (my swing speed is only about 90-95 mph) This is a mid to high kick point shaft and it has successfully lowered the ball flight. I reviewed this driver on another forum and concluded that whilst it is in no way head and shoulders above any of the current offerings on the market it is not completely eclipsed by them either. It represents excellent value for money given how inexpensively they can be bought for.
