As the title says, what has someone taught or told you that has been the best benefit for your game?

For me it was to follow through with my putting stroke. I used to stab at the ball and was never consistent in aim or distance. After I started a smooth follow through both improved greatly.

    Don't move your head.

If you want a repeatable, dependable swing, this is absolutely paramount.

    Simple: duplicate Ben Hogan's swing.

I've always had really good hip action: bump forward and turn through. A golf pro I was working with told me I wasn't making crisp, square contact. He said to swing entirely with my arms and focus on squaring the club at impact without moving the lower half.

I made a few swings and felt powerless because my lower half was stationary or at least in my head it was stationary. The results were crazy. Longer shots and crisp contact. We recorded a few swings and I noticed my hip action was still there.

Sometimes what the mind perceives and what is actually happening are two different things.

If you get a case of the $hanks:
Turn your hat backwards and upside down
Put all the change in your left pocket
Put a tee behind your right ear

Also, watch Tin Cup. Probably should watch Caddyshack too.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say (other than Rock) we have been absolutely no help.

At least i referred them to a real professional instead of trying to emulate one.

Basically, the same as you. I was taught to finish my stroke with the putter head pointing at the hole to make sure I was following through. Now, if my putting starts failing me, I force myself to do this and it always helps.

The 2nd best advice was to never wear wool around Rock.

I'm not looking for advice for me, but getting a conversation started. Been slowing down here and figured this was as good a topic as any. Hell who knows someone might actually benefit from our babbling?

    Ok serious answer...

The closer you get to the green, the more open and quiet your lower body gets - so that by the time you get to the fringe, you could stand on front leg alone and let your upper body do all the work.

I don't know, Tea Time said to duplicate Ben Hogan's swing. And really if your going to play golf, you could do worse.

Ok serious answer, I am going to quote the great Lanny Watkins:
