Getting irons reshafted

Stupid question, but here goes.

I have a set of Mp-33's sitting around. I don't play them, but I'd like to get them reshafted just in case. I don't reshaft myself so I'd have to get them done somewhere. I really don't want to take them somewhere and have to spend $250 to get new shafts, grips, and pay the installation fee. Would it be possible to buy some pulls with the grips already on for like $45 and then pay $80 or whatever to have somebody do it for me? Do clubmakers do this or do you have to buy shafts in the store to get something done? I'd much rather spend $100-125 then spend $10 a shaft, $7 a grip, and $10 as an installation fee or whatever it would end up being.

Thanks

Post a "Want to Buy" ad in the classifieds. Maybe someone has what you need and will sell them to you.

I'm not really worried about finding some shaft pulls. I just don't know if you can bring shafts in to a clubmaker and have them install them or if you actually need to buy shafts from the clubmaker in order to have the work done.

I'd like to know before I start looking for some shafts to buy.

I've had 2 drivers re-shafted with my shafts, so yes you can. You simply need to check with your club builder first. Most guys will.

OK thanks for your help

i know you're looking to do this "just in case" and without spending a ton of money, but you might want to think about taking the opportunity to be fit. - why spend any money on new shafts that may or may not fit you - you might be able to pay a fitter to retro-fit the clubs for you (maybe with pulls, maybe not) and get the swingweight/MOI and lengths matched to your swing. - if the clubfitter is good, it can't hurt to talk about bag makeup and all that other stuff too

I'll do the work for you. I can also find you some pulls if you are interested. Shoot me a PM and we could talk about it.

BTW, is there a reason you want to change shafts, or are you just looking for pulls with different grips?

There was a set of DGS300's on wrx for 40$ shipped earlier today. So they're out there.

I'm borderline stiff, x-stiff. I went with x-stiff in my 33's and I hit them decent, but I'd prefer to move back to stiff.

If you are borderline x-stiff, you could softstep the shaft, IE install the three iron shaft in the four iron and so on. This would make them play firm stiff, and would save you having to buy an entire set. You would just need to buy a new three iron shaft.

Is your ballflight too low with the x-stiff's? Or is it a feel thing?

It's more of a feel thing. I saw them cheap on ebay so I jumped on them. They were reshafted before getting to me and it seems like it was a pretty shitty job. The grips are in bad shape anyways so I figure I could either buy some grips for 30 or so or try to find some pulls with grips for 45-50. Figured if I'm gonna do it might as well do it right and make sure they're put together properly.

Is this backwards? isn't the 4 iron shaft stiffer than the 3 iron shaft? (3 iron has more tip) (having a long day -sorry if i'm losing it here)

Curious clug, why would putting a 4 shaft in a 3 iron make any difference whatsoever? It'd make the 3iron shorter, right? Seems like that'd screw up lie angles. But other than length, and omitting flighted designs, what's the real difference between iron shafts?

Yes, darn it. I've had a long day, too. You are correct.

I had that backwards, note above. Anyway, since the tip gets more flexible as the club gets longer (less tip trim) if you step them up, essentially you are changing the flex slightly. If you do this with a set of pulls, you would need to butt trim them to maintain the proper length.

Ah I see. Thank ya. I always like to further my understanding of clubmaking. I was under the assumption that they did butt-trim the shafts to fit them into a whole set. But they do it from the tip eh? So that a 9i shaft in a set is stiffer than a 5i?
