I need to get a set of clubs, and I'm trying to keep the budget around $350. Looking at global golf, I can't find squat.... I know what I need, but I have no clue what to look for.

I need:
A driver
3 wood and 5 wood
3 to 9 iron
pitching wedge
sand wedge
loft wedge (only if the sand wedge has a lot of bounce)

Regular flex (wedges can be wedgeflex) and graphite on the driver and woods only

I want to have a good feeling on the club, so I'm thinking no Wilson deep reds or what ever, because I've read they have no feeling (and I've experienced it)

so what would you get (from global golf/dicks/golf galaxy)?

Well I presume you aren't off single figures so let's see

Nicklaus Irons $110

Driver - Adams Redline $50

3 wood - Callaway Steelhead $30

5 wood - Cleveland Launcher $50

Use the drop down menu to see the 5w as the link defaults to the 3 wood

Sand and Lob wedges - Both Cleveland 588 $20 each = $40
Cleveland 588 Chrome Wedge Sand Wedge 56 Degree Used Golf Club at GlobalGolf.com

Putter - really your choice but this is nice at $50

Total would be $330

Basically you have $50 to pick a putter you like off there and maybe try a newer 3 wood or drop the 3 and 5 and just get a 4 and upgrade the irons.

Quite a solid set that for the money imo. http://www.globalgolf.com/product/golfclub/-/pid--1005132/iron-set/nicklaus/high-ct.aspx?gd=3

thanks for the info. That looks pretty good, and I'm thinking I'll try and get a newer 3, or maybe just a 4 as you suggested.

It makes sense to get a 4w with that budget - it will do the job of both a 3 and a 5 and is easier to hit off the fairway than a 3 wood.

Glad to help - quite enjoy putting sets together being a total saddo, good luck in your quest.

okay, so which would be more forgiving, and easier to hit, the ben hogan irons, or the nicklaus?

Just had a look around and they both retail new at about the same - I would have thought that the Nicklaus's would be an ideal set if you need forgiveness.

They look a steal at that price. But reviews are hard to find. All I do know is that there is a guy on here who knows a lot about clubs and he rates Nicklaus irons in terms of build quality. Forgotten who though.

Hogan Edge irons are pretty forgiving and being forged have that feel you want but will need more looking after.

Both sets are really nice and very good value.

any other opioions? I'm probably gonna be ordering tonight.

okay, between the nicklaus and the taylor mades, which would give me more distance, and more foregiveness?

I would personally go for the taylormades if i had to choose. Like i already said though, i wouldnt pick either.

I would highly suggest that you go look on ebay and pick up a set of Taylormade RAC LT, or RAC OS. They are both really great buys from sets that are a tad over a year ago.

The taylormade 200's are ~5 years old, and id like to think that you could benefit from newer technology

I would've gotten those irons, except the cost of cutting them down would have put them way out of budget, and my parents don't belive in eBay.

and I need a new recommendation for a driver because that one sold.

edit- MacGregor MACTEC NVG2 Driver 9.5 Degree Certified Preowned Golf Club at GlobalGolf.com What do you think? and what difference does the weight of the shaft make? (select 10.5*|fujikura quadra action 50g|regular flex)

Fair enough, if you cant use ebay then Global Golf would definitely be the next best option.

Do you have any golf shops near you? Try and see if you can get a demo driver or 2. Most good shops should have them, and then you can take them to the course or range and test them out.
