Surprisingly the thread outlived the GM. It is too bad. I thought he did a great job. From last overall to the Conference Final in three years is impressive.
Happy for the new GM, Stan Bowman. He is a great "friend" too (and a really good player, shot 72 at St. Andrews the day after the...
It was a short-lived experiment for a few reasons. Not the least of which is that I'm a Scotty snob, I guess. The feel of the ball coming off an SC putter is outstanding for me. Didn't want to cut the rattler grip off my gamer either.
I don't really like the putter that I put the Super...
I use a 64*. It replaced a 73*. No kidding. Same as the reasons above. It fills a gap. I hit it 85 yards with a full swing. My next wedge up is a 58* (105 yards), then a 52* (125y). PW is 47* (145y). For me, it filled a need as I'm fairly long and have a lot of wedges into greens...
And the winner is...
Dale Tallon. Best ball-striker, worst putter combo that I have ever played with. Not that he is an awful putter, but he rarely makes anything outside four feet. 18 tap-ins per round. Three for birdie though.
Ron Wilson, Leafs coach, is the best overall player, +3 or...
Not sure if I've told this story before, but it is worth telling again. I have a good friend that is a high profile hockey guy and a golf pro too. Plays in that Lake Tahoe thing and a few other celebrity events. He was a club pro while his kids were growing up, after he retired from the NHL...
Best story from the Draft. A prospect, that went in the Top 5, told a team interviewing him that he had had a bad knee for five years (as he did not want to be picked by the team in that interview). Sure enough, they passed on him and took someone else. Brilliant!
As well, the Canadiens fans...
Not sure if anyone cares, but I only carried 14 clubs, used two different balls and finished T3. It was a monsoon. Won $250. Bought some beer and ended up around break-even for the afternoon.
Bet on three of the four guys that I play with regularly in the pari-mutuel. They completed a...
He got an awful break on his first swing of the day or he might have won. Tugged his approach and it buried right under and against the lip. His only play was to chunk it down to bottom of the bunker. From there he got it on and three putted for triple.
Glover hit it in a similar spot...
Funny and a good point.
The crew I'm playing with/against are of the "hustler" variety and will bring everything they own, just in case. It is a free-for-all in many ways. There will be over 40 teams, $250 per team to the prize pool, plus some side pari-mutuel wagering. No handicaps. Winners...
I don't agree. I find the 14 club limit restricting and understand why Lawson Little and Bobby Jones carried 25+ clubs at times.
My game is of the creative variety and more options is a good thing for me.
In my original post, I indicated that I would be using my regular ball for approaches. I want the super-spinny, just in case, a "specialty" shot occurs. With no limit on the number of balls (and apparently clubs, I'm told), I might as well have a few options.
That's a good point. Might do that.
Unfortunately, if my partner's in the fairway, we probably won't spend much looking for my $5 wayward spheroid. I find that even though I try not to overswing in a scramble, I still hit some crooked shots. It is a pace of play thing too.
I'm playing in a 2-Man scramble this Saturday. It is a strange mix of strict rules and liberal rules. Seems that the ball that is hit off the tee does not need to be the same ball as the ball hit into the green (or around the green). I will purchase a sleeve of a few different flavours...
I think a better example would be when they talk about baseball players being "five-tool" players. Hitting for Power, Hitting for Average, Running, Throwing and Fielding.
In hockey we have Skating, Skill, Hockey Sense, Size and Heart. Few NHL players don't have at least 3 of the 5.
What...
Love the X. Switched to an X flex driver a few years ago and went from long and wrong to a long and (mostly) straight. Put Project X 6.5s (X flex) in my irons last summer and really improved my ballstriking, especially with the mid and long irons.
Used to be into the 120s with driver swing...
Agreed that Brian looked like an idiot. A lot of it was good editing. On the promos, they make him look like he is saying he is way better than Tour players. Got my attention and made me tune in as they promised his Top 10 quotes, yet didn't show a Top 10.
On the show, it was still an over...
