$250 at Callaway: What would you do?

So, I got a $250 gift card to Callaway at work this week.

First off, it goads me a bit that the prices there are MSRP for older clubs or clubs that I can get at the pro shop for well below retail. But, then again, it's free, so why should I complain?

My concerns are:

+ Shoes
+ Driver
+ Bag

I really don't like the Callaway bags, plus I really like the x57 stand bag from Titleist.

I'm really wondering about their shoes - how do they fit, are they comfortable, and do they last? I'm pretty abusive to shoes in general, however, golf shoes won't see my normal wrath. Are they shoes you would buy if you had free money only (i.e. total luxury), or ones that you would avoid?

I like the Great Big Bertha, although I'm basing that only on a friend's review and a couple swings with it. I should really use the demo to hit a bucket of balls and see what I think.

So, how would you spend this gift card, and what do you think of thier shoes?

Cheers,

-Andrew

Big Bertha 454 with the NV shaft. Go deep all day.

The shoes suck. I'm an avid supporter of Callaway, but their shoes are terrible. A guy I played with had a pair that were falling apart after only 8 rounds, and those were his "replacement" set from the originals that kicked the bucket.

I have a Callaway carry bag and love it. It have absolutely no qualms with it whatsoever. It has the Woode top, which I love, and plenty of room for everything.

I still say go for the driver. If you hate it, sell it. It will sell like hotcakes as it's a sweet, forgiving unit.

Failing all of that, 250 bucks worth of HX Blues. :D

I would by the balls and then sell them to your buddies. The clubs can be had much cheaper everywhere else. You could probably put them on ebay and make some pretty good money, we can't keep them in stock.

Then use that money to buy the driver you want for a reasonable price. If you really like the original great big bertha they can be found regularly for about $50.00.

Thanks, the main sponsor of the Charity Classic gave each minor sponsor 3 of them. Gravy train!

HX Hot's are $32 a dozen, HX TP's are $50.

For what it's worth, I have a couple dozen Titleist Pro V1x's that we gave away during the event. Leftovers, doncha know ;)

Cheers,

-Andrew

Thanks for the heads up on the shoes. What's good for shoes on the market today?

The 454 with the NV is available in Stiff only and is $375 with a 2 month lead time. However, the preowned site has a BB Titanium (not the 454) for cheap. I'll call 'em tomorrow and report back.

Cheers,

The only Callaway product I will use is the HX Tour ball. It has nothing to do with quality or price, there clubs just don't fit my eye.

I just picked up a pair of Green Joys from Footjoy. . .I have to wear 2 pr of socks, but these shoes are the most comfortable I've worn for golf. Also, Nike has some awesome looking golf shoes out now. . .Kinda look like the Nike shocks/shox ?? running shoes.

As far as Callaway, I'd stick w/spending on a Driver. I know you don't want to spend $250 on balls, and if its with a gift certificate, what the hell, get a brand new driver and maybe add $50 to get something a little better. JMO!!

I'd buy $250 worth of HX Tour or HX Tour 56's. You could always trade them at a pro shop too.
