47* 52* 58* wedge combo

I have been tinkering with the idea of going to a 47* 52* 58* wedge set-up. I hit my 52 and 56 almost on top of each other. A firm 56 wedge for me is about 95-100 yards and anything over 100 to120 I use my gap. I also have a 60* wedge but I usually leave it home because it’s my 15th club in the bag. I know that most people like to keep a 4 degree gap in their wedges. What are your thoughts about this set-up.

Sounds good to me. I don't count the PW as a real "wedge" of sorts, it's pretty much my 10 iron. I've removed the PW from my set and substituted it for a 49* Mizzy wedge. So now I carry the 49, a 53 and a 60, but I rarely hit my 60* unless I have to. I still consider the 49* my 10 iron. My 53 is easily my go-to wedge for anything inside 100 yards.

Ive gone to a 6* gap, because like you, all the shots were exactly the same between my 52 and 56, but i went best of both and got a 54, i duno, but i like it a lot better. (48,54,60 btw).

I felt with the bigger gap (and TONS of practise on 3/4 shots) i can hit a better array of shots, but from a 6* gap to a 5* gap isnt too bad if you already have the weapons.

I really do not care what my * gaps are in my wedges. I am more concerned with the distance between wedges are. It just so happens that I have 48* PW, 54*, and a 60* wedges. But some are bent either +/- .5* in some of them to get the proper yardage for me. I play full 60* wedge shots from the fairway at a little over 100 yards and 54* wedges to 135 yards so this is why I gap them accordingly.

You would benefit from a sole grind like the MP-R has. If you are hitting a 56* wedge 130 you are closing it down to an effective 50 or less loft. I was hitting my old 54* almost as far as my PW, then I got the MP-R 52*, I only hit it about 90yds. I always come up short if I try to use it outside 100. Accuracy is so much better now though. I use my PW as a real wedge and from around the 100marker and in I'm getting a lot more accurate.

i use that exact set up, 47(pw) goes 125, 52 goes 110 then the 58 goes 90 but i rarely hit the 58 or 52 with a full swing, from 80 to 125 its a pw(my personal go to club). 58 is great out of the sand though. 52 isnt really used for much but chipping when i want to play a shot inbetween a bump and run(pw) and a flop(58)

its a good set-up, something i am considering doing. Its all about how well the gaps work for your game.
