Last Monday, my brudder & I were at a resort course in East Texas, Pine Dunes - a very nice course in a really improbable part of the country. We were a twosome & were moving along pretty good with noone in front when we caught up with a slow group about 13. Then the group behind, also playing pretty fast, caught up with us.

On 16 a short par 4, we were putting & I heard "thud" a ball hit about 15 feet short of the green & we looked back at a guy in an orange hat standing on the box then commented "nice drive". On 17,after waiting a bit for the group in fron to play out of our range (took 'em a bit) another thud as we were hitting our 2nd. I looked back & orange hat's on the green. Hmmm, seems I'm kinda getting a message here, but no point in getting excited. On 18 both our drives were pretty good, he's on the left of the FW I'm on the right about the same distance. We parked the cart in the middle of the FW & walked to out balls, He hit, I hit & when I got back to the cart, there was a brand new Nike Pro Platinum sitting right next to the cart.

Thinking this must be a gift from the Golf-Gods I gave an appropriate thank you to the driver dieties & dropped their offering in my pocket as was their obvious intent. I do remember wondering if the guy in the orange hat was waiting for his gift from the Gods because he was standing in the fairway looking around. :D

The next day Brudder, 2 sons & I went out and they all chanted "keep your head down" as I sacrificed that holy orb with a PW into the lake on # 3. It made a very pretty splash & the Golf Gods were good to us that day.

I hope Orange hat found his ball!:emot-ange

Nice story, I have picked up peoples balls before when they hit into us. I have even goone so far as too hti the ball back at them, or off into the trees. There is nothign I hate more then impatient jerks who think hitting the ball up your ass will speed things up. If you are being held back the group in front of you there is nothing you can do.

Another fun thing is to run over the ball with your cart if you are using one.

Just smudge that dude into the ground so that the only thing showing is the logo.

I always keep a few crap balls in the bag. If this happens more than once ai will exchange their nice new ball with one of my crappy ones.

I had one guy come straight for us on the next tee bax and ask why I switched balls. I told him if he had to use the crappy balls we were using he would be playing slower also.
We will never hold up a fast player but if their is a slow 4 some in front their is no place to go.

You should take out your marker, assuming you have one in the bag and write some sort of profanity on the ball to get your point across, or better yet write on the ball that you replace his with.

Gentlemen, I am shocked & appalled that you would suggest that I removed anothers ball from the course! Yea verily; that white orb was a gift from the Golf Gods that I could refuse only upon great personal peril. :emot-ange

However I am somewhat confused that it was inscribed with the Devil's mark rather that the sacred 8 letters that begin & end with T. [Crosses himself with the sign of the T, and chants the Holy Mantra. Keep your head down]

Orange hats mean three things in this neck of the woods - hunter, Univ. of Tenn fan or prison road crew.

Golf gods wear crimson hats, though, wirehair. The crimson golf gods must have felt you were more deserving of the ball than someone in an orange hat. You should feel privileged.

I used to get all worked up when someone hit into us... not anymore. As long as I'm not injured (or preferably any of my playing partners, but that depends) I try not to let it bother me.

I have hit into people and been with people that have hit into others on occaision from crazy cart path bounces etc. I've had some people come running down the fairway at me (a la Sideways) and have seen some verbal confrontation.

In my experience much of the time it is an accident, and if much deal is made of it, it can ruin an otherwise pleasant day, in which case I get pissed, because the pleasant days are one of the main reasons we go out there.

So while usually if someone hits into us I'd ignore it and keep gping, but if some dude in an orange hat were jacking it up my ass all day long, then I'd keep his Pinnacle Extra Distance just for spite.

I drove into a 300+ yard par 4 once. I posted it here or on GR and got lambasted about it.

Some people don't mind, but more often than not, you can tell when a guy means to or doesn't. I mean, turning to see the last 3 revolutions of the ball isn't a big deal. But if it one hops off the cart, he's going down.

Maybe i'm just worked up. Got cut off on the way to work, gave the lady the finger. Total dolt move by her.

That's the thing, you can usually tell if it was intentional or not. We have couple of holes that it can happen on easily. Both holes drop off at about 220 yds. so it's easy to think the fairway is clear if you come up to the tee box at the wrong time.

If it happens once, no big deal. Of course if they keep making the same mistake over and over then take the ball or hit it OB.

Gift from the Gods. That's my story & I'm sticking to it!

Bama made a good point about orange hats. 'Course, this being Texas & all, there's some that'll argue that Gods wear Orange. There's also just as many that'll swear that Gods wear Maroon. Me, I'm an SMU Alum, we think Gods wear Armani suits, drive a Benz & sell those hats.;)

I once had a guy hit the green on a 136 yard par 3 when we were still putting out. The course had been backed up all day and there was no where to go.

They are lucky their cart was faster than ours. It takes a lot to get me mad but that is the easy way to do it.
