a good old rust question..

I have a set of ping irons that have rust on the shafts. Of course it was because they were left in the rain all spring/summer :/

Mostly all the rust came off of the clubs with alot of scrubbing, and the rust isn't even noticeable anymore. But look up close and there are tiny spots of rust, any chemical or cleaning agent that may take whats left of the rust off?

Thanks!

Steel wool.

You can also wax your shafts to keep them from rusting. You'll have to repeat this process over the season, but it works.

"Wax your shafts"? Is that what the kids are calling it these days? I think it also goes without saying that we have to repeat the process, and of course it works. :emot-ange

You need to be very careful. When you see rust on the outside you can bet they are rusting on the inside. When we get clubs in for reshafting it is usually because they rusted from the inside out. Ping shafts are the worse about this. It will take years to see the real damage but keeping them dry can really extend the life of the shafts.

Tin (aluminium) foil and vinegar. Tkes off rust in a heartbeat. It stinks but it works.

Hmmmm... when I regripped last time, I noticed the inside of the shaft was a little gunky and rusty. What kind of problems, or potential problems, does this present?

The shafts will eventually rust thru and the shaft will break. If you tend to hit your clubs in anger it will be even worse. You can't see the inside so it will be a complete surprise but once one breaks they will all start.
