June 14th, in addition to being Flag Day, is the birthday of the United States Army. Our son is close to completing his 3-year assignment at the Pentagon. He is one of the most decorated of Army chefs. In September, he will report to Ft. Richardson, Alaska to join an Artic Airborne unit and return to jumping out of perfectly good airplanes. (Previous to his Pentagon assignment, his entire career was with the 82nd Airborne.) Mike assisted, this year, with the Army's birthday cake. This is the second time he has worked on this project. This cake is 6 FT long by 3 FT wide. You'll note a few dignitaries in the one photo. Secretary of Defense Hagel, Army Chief of Staff General Odinero (sp), Joint Chief General Dempsey, etc. Our son is the one with glasses... and no hair... standing at attention, just to the right of the soldier in BDU's. The kid was pretty stoked over this event. He's been blessed with some really unique experiences, operating the Army's Executive Dining Facility for the past three years.
