There was an article in Golf Digest recently that stated that right before impact, you should snap the wrist quickly to get more club head speed. I was curious about this recommendation, so I tried it at Golf Smith using one of those "Speed Sticks" that VJ endorses.

Using the Speed Stick with my normal swing it registered 90 its scale. When I tried it again using the above advice is was 95.

I put this advice into play on the course it seems to work. I was fearing a duck hook by doing this, but it hasn't happened yet.

Both, if your hands are not working together a bad shot is sure to happen.

You should do this, most call it turning you hands over, to get the most power from your swing. To little and there is no power, too much and you will have no control.
When most people try to snap their wrists they will try hitting at the ball, you should swing and let the ball get in the way. When you try it be careful not to throw the club at the ball or the result will be very fat shots and very sore hands.

Garcia is the best example of this, but if you try it be warned it can knock your tempo out and effect your game significantly. You can experiment with things like this if you are genuinely naturally talented,if you aren't,and you play decent golf, you swing could be buggered.

This should be something that your swing naturally creates. If you have to think about doing it, you aren't doing it right. You WILL mess your game up with this.

Indeed, snapping the wrists through invariably turns into releasing through early, hence a draw,or probably hook.

Listen to the crowe cause he speaks with knowledge and wisdom. I've been down this road and the last thing you want to be doing is thinking about when to release you wrists.

I did find a drill that helps. It's simple and easy and you don't have to think. I've been practicing with it for a couple of months and picked up a full club in distance. Here's the link.

If you have a problem with releasing the club through the ball, start with gripping the club lighter, much lighter, and focus on releasing all tension in the body at address.then 'hang loose' and stay behind the ball.

this might actually help my slice...maybe. cuz when i slow my swing down i find that my body is turning to soon leaving the clubfar behind and the clubface open, but maybe if i snap my wrists the club will catch up with me and be square when i hit the ball... either way im gunna try it.

Ah, young jedi...

Work on your gross movements and fix the fact that your body is getting out of position, otherwise, you will have a body and wrists out of position. I'm serious.

THIS WILL RUIN A DECENT SWING AND KILL A QUESTIONABLE SWING!!!!!

This is quite possibly the worst swing thought I have ever heard.

this is kinda a dumb question but, in a golf swing are my wrists supposed to bend at all?

Yes. They will cock on the backswing, rotate naturally through impact and then cock the other way in the follow-through.

My point is that any aggressive, conscious release of the wrists to square the clubface will be inconsistent at best. You will have everything from pushes to pulls to slices to hooks, depending on clubhead path. It will be a "box-of-chocolates" swing, and you'll never know what you'll get.

This is fundamental to a good golf swing. The wrist 'set' is vital to a good swing.Get a lesson and study it.basically, when your arms are back and horizontal to the ground, the butt of the club should point to the floor. And on plane obviously. Many pros may have weird and wonderful variations of this but thats because they are incredibly talented and have hit over 1,000,000 practice balls.

Wrist bend as in flexion/extension (not really recommended), abduction/adduction (cocking/uncocking) or pronation/supination (rotation of the forearms).... ?
Anyways, the first thing to fix a slice is having a square at impact then fixing the path....
This means: grip, setup, alignment, backswing, downswing.... lol
