I hear you.

A round of golf for me is like going on a blind date, you never know what you are going to get. More often than not it is going to be ugly.

I thought that was a box of chocolates :).

well.. i had:
7 group lessons
5 private lessons w/ video
5 private lessons w/o video
read about 3 dozen of golf books at Barnes and Nobles
all the tips from almost all golf magazines
many self video of my swing w/ analysis from others
golf 3 times a week, at least 10hrs/week on putting greens, 5hrs at the range

and you get

fairway 60% of the time
GIR 40%
decent short game w/ wedges
able to shape shots the way i want to 30% of the time at the course (higher for range)
still putt like $hit
but still shooting in the 80s.

Never had a lesson & my ugly but semi effective swing proves it. Earlier this year was working almost exclusively on my tee shots & while my fairway percentage was looking pretty damn good, 80%, my GIR was horrible as in I was lucky to get 1 or 2 for 18 holes.

Now been neglecting the woods & working on irons, my FIR has dropped to 50% but the GIR's have increased to 30% & the ones I do miss are just off the green with an easy chip to get back on.

If I can ever put all aspects of the game togther like I know I can for 1 rd, it should be a pretty good score.
