Okay. We all know how nice the premium balls are and I think we're also trying to find the "ultimate" cheap golf ball.

Give your input as to which cheap ball you like overall and comment on the following:

1. Distance
2. Performance on shots into green.
3. Price.

Mine

Slazenger Straight
1. As long as everything I've hit except ProV1, B330RS and Chrome Soft.
2. I hit high irons into the green so most balls work for me.
3. four dozen balls for $30 at Dick's including free shipping.

Finding the balls we do, I've had the chance to play a lot of el cheapos. (We just hauled 3 five gallon buckets full to a church garage sale.) Some time ago, we decided the #1 lost ball on our course is the MOJO. Used to be Top Flite. We tee off when it's barely daylight. So, on the first tee box you don't hit a sparkling ProV. There's a good chance you will lose that tee ball if you don't see exactly where it lands. So, I started hitting MOJO balls on the #1 tee... and have enjoyed them. I get excellent distance. They don't feel all that bad. Most other cheap balls won't stop any better than they do on the greens. 39/40 this morning, playing the same MOJO hit on #1.

I have found a few Slazengers. They just feel hard to me. May have to try playing one for a full round and see how we get along. We don't buy balls. I've still got 3 or 4 dozen of brand new Titleist balls in the basement that are probably well over 5 years old. Also quite a few dozen of ProV's that have been found. They're old also. Just find enough that I don't seem to ever need to get into my stash. Found two "like new" ProV's this morning.

Pinnacle Gold. Cheap turds, but they are made in the USA and seem to play well enough for a cheap ball.

I've played them, not bad. For cheap balls I'm a fan of Top Flite D2 Feels, Srixon Q Stars, and Bridgestone E6.

I would sum the Pinnacle Gold up as not bad as well. I guess I was not expecting much, so the fact that they were OK was a bonus.

The Wilson Duo works great with my slower swing speed. However, the Wilson Zip works equally well at half the price.

Using the same ball is supposed to be the way to go so you know how your ball is going to react especially in the short game. But my short game is so inconsistent that hardly seems to matter. I look for inexpensive balls that keep side spin down. At least that's my thinking. I'm sure it's flawed.

If you're a pro you can probably benefit from using the same ball. Amateurs only notice distance I believe or side spin like you mentioned. Your thinking is not flawed..

Just got 50 second hand Duo balls for $30. There goes the practice lot for the shag bag.
