I bought an older driver for $5; does anyone have any info about it? The sole says King Cobra, 12* loft, the face is steel, the head size is 200cc; the finish is dark green with 2 indentations on the crown, the shaft is dark green graphite with imprinting King Cobra Autoclave System, Senior design.

I have pictures, but no place to post them.

what do you mean, "no place to post them"?

Post them here.

Just attach them to your message (scroll down to the "manage attachments" button).

That is the club tiger made famous. He used that driver when he first turned pro. The version you have is a senior flex shaft, for some reason the made the senior a different color that year.
It is a pretty good driver and for $5 it will be hard to beat.

Thanks, OB.

Depending on the weather and my flu (hack, cough, gag) I will try it out this weekend.

Well, I tried to hit it today at lunchtime and didn't do too well. For all of it's loft, I just couldn't connect well and everything I hit was very low.

Darn, it was cold out there with the wind blowing.

Practice...

My dad had one of those around 11 years ago. I don't remember ever hitting it but my dad hit it a mile. Back then 200cc was considered oversized. We've come a long way since then.

Actually you're better off hitting yourself in the head with that driver than eating the poisonous sludge they serve at McDonalds.

That being said you've actually gotten yourself an excellent piece of training equipment. Learn to hit that driver and all of the nice 460 cc drivers will be easy to hit. That driver can teach you many things including ball striking and controlling your clubhead speed. If you swing it too hard chances are because it is a senior club made for slower swing speeds you'll have difficulty controlling the ball. When it comes to driver distance there are alot of factors to consider...launch angle, ball striking, and certainly club head speed are some of the most important. Clubhead speed inparticular is focused on way too much though. One of the best examples I can give you is in Long Driving competitons it isn't always the the guy with the highest clubhead speed. In one instance a competitor won with a clubhead speed of 117 mph while everyone else was around 130 mph. So how could he win? Well if you took a look at his drivers and even irons you'd see a wear mark about the size of a dime in the dead center of the face of everyone of his clubs. While he was much slower than the rest he hit the ball much better. You learn to hit that driver and I guarantee you'll become a better ball striker and as I mentioned earlier you'll hit the modern drivers alot better.

Tiger sure didn't think so when he played it.

If looks are what you're concerned with, perhaps consider running a spell check on your signature line.

Using isn't spelt with an "e".
