  • Arnold Palmer "the standard" Irons. Includes 2-9 irons with 3 wedges.
  • Big Bertha "steelhead" 11 degree driver.
  • Taylor Made "burner plus" 9.5 degree driver.
  • Taylor Made "burner" 15 degree 3 wood.
  • Taylor Made 20 degree 4 wood.
  • Bullet Golf "quazar" golf bag with stand and head cover.
  • Golf balls, tees and whatever else is in the bag.
  • Shag bag full of shag balls and walk cart.
Clubs are right handed. They are about 7 years old. Although I only used them for three seasons.
Condition of heads are 6/10..cosmetics only
Condition of shafts are 8/10..only because the ID labels have faded due to washing.
Condition of grips is 9/10. These are the third set of grips. I had them regripped each year of use.

What would you price these clubs at considering they are 7 years old?

I would not suggest this for a first set. They are not easy to hit.

If I was buying them I would pay about $100 for the whole thing.

Thanks for giving us something to work with...

The clubs you are evaluating are so old that you can do much better with new(er) equipment.

Try a used set of Tommy Armour 845 irons. Check ebay religiously...you may be able to locate an entire set for about $125 or so. These are fine golf clubs and you can resell them in the future. This set should include a PW.

Go to a local golf shop that sells used equipment. Try out their putters for quite a while on the practice green in the shop. Buy what feels good for you. You should be able to get something for $25 or so.

You are now up to $150.

I would suggest that you limit your final purchases to a hybrid and a driver OR 3 wood.

Your hybrid club will replace your long irons and will help you get confidence from the tee. Adams hybrids are very reasonably priced and you may be able to find one for $50 or so on ebay used. This is a good choice for a beginner. These clubs did not exist until the last 3-4 years.

You may want to wait on your Driver and get a 3 wood now. A used Callaway or TaylorMade is an excellent choice.

Try 3balls.com.

This is a superb vendor of used equipment in Boston. They are one of the most widely respected vendors of used golf equipment in North America. Their reputation is beyond repute and I would not hesitate to contact them by email concerning your needs and budget.

Good luck...golf is an expensive game and we welcome you here as you get going...

I see a significant number of 845s on ebay -ranging from hybrid to Silver Scot, to cs. What is the difference between these and what is best for a beginner?

I was able to buy a set of Tommy Armour 845 SILVER SCOTT IRONS 4 THRU PW, TOMMY ARMOUR STIFF STEEL SHAFTS, for about 40US on ebay. From looking around this looks like a really good deal. Am I right?
