Worst in terms of consequences was 18th hole of the state AAA high school golf tournament my senior year. Bacon Park GC in Savannah GA, called by a Golfweek writer the worst course in the country quite deservedly. After hacking it around, had about 210 yards for my 3rd shot into the green. I should have laid but hit a 4-wood thin, right, splash, not even close to being a good shot. Unbeknownst to me, I would have won with a par, ended up making double to shoot 72 and get me into a tie for second by 1 shot (for all the college golf dorks out there, tied with Stuart Moore who won the Dogwood this year). That also brought our team score into a tie for second, but thankfully we ended up winning the playoff for runnerup medals. I didn't care all that much about losing out on the individual win but would have been really pissed at myself if the team hadn't won the playoff.

Most of my bad pressure misses are like that shot -- start the swing with my hands, don't make an aggressive turn through the ball, it travels with a thin, weak fade 10 yards right of the green, usually into water.

Earlier this summer I tried to punch a 3-wood under a tree and topped it, the ball traveled about 10 feet.

How about a really bad hole. This was in this weeks Wed. tourney.

176 yd. par 3. First shot was a nice hook that went barely ob. Third was an even more impressive pull hook that cleared the road. One the green with my next lying 5 but followed that with a 3 putt. :faintthud

Nothing like an 8 on a par 3 just to let you know your completely out of the money for the rest of the tourney. :D

How about just missing the ball entirely? I was playing in our traveling group about ten years ago and stood up on a long par 3 with a forced water carry of about 165 yards and whiffed it. I don't think the club got within an inch.

All my friends are lying on the ground laughing their asses off.

Then comes the fun...I chunked the next swing into the lake. Reloaded and fatted another one in the lake and a third.

I finished the hole with a 12.

That's easy....many years ago I went through a case of the shanks, el hosel....playing in a club tournament I was doing OK till I got to 18. Ripped a pretty good drive and was approx. 100 yards out...shanked that sucker smack dab into the middle of about half the members that had formed a gallery to watch.

I wish it had been 10 years since I've done that. This was just last year but with a better ending.

192 yd par three and same as you I just whiffed it. After we all stopped laughing I managed to hit one just right of the green. To everyone's surprise, including mine I chipped in for par.

Our club manager was playing with us that day and put it in the newsletter as a quiz. How do you hit the ball only twice, never putt and make par on par 3? No one got it right.

Here's another Bravo gem...

Our 18th hole is a downhill dogleg left par 4. The parking lot (car park) is located along the left side of the last 100 yards as you approach the green.

I am standing about 150 yards away from the green and take out my 8 iron and hit a massive hook.

The ball lands between rows 5 and 6 in the parking lot...and bounces high in the air...the next time it hits the ground it lands between rows 1 and 2...then the next time it comes down is on top of the clubhouse...and that point it bounced down onto the pool deck and the final resting place was between tennis courts 3 and 4 where a group of 70 year old women were playing their weekly match.

I leave the course and start pursuing the ball. As I walk through the parking lot, somebody looks at me like I am an idiot and says..."it barely missed my car" and I continue two more rows down and somebody else says, "Another foot to the left and it would have broken my windshield"...then onto the pool deck where an 8 year old kid says, "it barely missed my head" and the final humiliation of walking onto the tennis court where some blueheaded woman looked at me like I was an idiot and said, "Here's your ball"....

Two years ago at a tournament.

Sitting about 70 yards off the green, having to hit over a hump in front of the flag. Grab the 60* and plan on spinning that bastard close to the hole.

Well, came up out of it and bladed that bastard 160 yards into the trees. Stood there in disbelief.

The worst part was that it was a best ball and one of my partners did the same thing, and the other two topped their approaches. We actually considered using my ball, as it was probably the easiest shot of the 4...

Worst shot I've ever seen?

About 5 years ago, my brother at a semi private course. Lines up on the 1st tee way left as his "bender" sometimes gets a little wild. He's pointing at least 45 yards left. Hauls off and hits one a ton. Hugest balloon slice ever. About 20 people watch the ball start of left and sail 125 yards from left to right into the parking lot, ending with the satisfying sound of a window smashing.

Worst part was, he hit my uncle's ball, which had been lying on the teebox while he stretched....so now he's lying 4.... :biglol:

on our 18th there is a patio about 15 yards from the back of the green up a steep slope, its 390 yard par4 with water in front of the green.

thump 3 wood up to water, then blade a LW into the crowd.

i wish i could have been swallowed up by the ground :(

ended up on a chair, no one really minded, i shouted fore etc ;)

I can relate to this.
A year or so ago I was playing in a Sunday Comp and was struggling to keep the score going by the time I got to the 17th tee. At this part of our course there a two other tees in close proximity.
Our 17th is a straight forwad 170 yard par three slightly down hill so I select a 7 iron and get ready to hit a shot I must have hit a thousand times before.
Not this time!! A pearler of a shank rifles over the group waiting on the 9th tee just missing them. Its past them before I get chance to think about warning them.
The group just happens to include the current club champion who is kind enough to point out where my shot had finished. I still get shivers thinking of the way I felt as I apologised for nearly taking their heads off. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

This is my most memorable.I was about sixteen ( quite a few years ago) playing a course on holiday with some friends. The hole was a par 3,i think about 140yrds on a elevated tee.
I hit a 7 iron over the green which hit a concrete path the ball bounced high in the air over a fence onto the road and landed on a hearse complete with flowers and mouners following behind.
They stopped briefly and must of been a bit confused as all they could see were three bags on the tee.We had hidden in the trees when the ball hit the hearse.

Oh longshot, best story ever.

As for me...to pick just one seems nearly impossible...I'll try though.
