The thing I hate most about golf is "The shanks" they pop up every now and then at the randomess times, even as my handicap improves...

Slow play.

I don't mind people with lesser abilities playing slow, but Rule #1 for any golfer should be to know the rules and play within your game. If you're hitting your 12th shot 150 yards from the green, pick it up and go to the next hole. You're not setting any records, so why keep everyone else up behind you? I can't stand that.

Sure, some people are jerks, but it irks me more when people just don't know. This is a mantra that every golfer should pass on to every other golfer that they play with or give help to. That way, it's a fundamental and will carry on through the ages (hopefully!)

I also hate being thirsty on the course. No water make Rock snap.:D

Second that.

I live by the theory that I pick up the ball at double par, unless I am in a competition or seriously feel I can break my best score (which is highly unlikely if I have a double par). Even on weekend competitions that I may play in, we stipulate that double par is the highest score, however you must put out double par to win a hole should everyone else have the same.

Second choice is knowing your means and playing within them. If I have to wait to hit my tee shot every hole while playing off the whites for someone who is hitting 3 off the blues, it is time they swallow their pride and tell their playing partners they will wait for them on the white (or gold) tees. I will not even say that a mid to high handicap player shouldn't play off the blues, as long as it is within their means. I have done it many times if playing well. Then again, If I can't get the ball off the tee that day, I realize it is time to move up. If they can't reach the red tees from their tee box, and are not playing with their pants around their ankles on their second shot, they shouldn't be playing off the Tips.

very good points all around,

i'd have to say missing short putts is what i don't like, it just feels that as a capable human being, it should not be hard to roll a ball with a 3/4 in radius into a hole with a 4.5 in diameter, from maybe 1-2 feet away and yet, it happens and when it does it just demoralizes you, i don't think i could've kept playing the way i was putting, i'm 100 times better at putting and the occasional yip will still find its way to me. also why i love this game, just the pure fact that under almost every circumstance, what happens is based/blamed soley on you

oh and the price...

400 metre hole. Guy playing in front of me hits the best drive of his career to date. This travels 180 metres. He walks to his ball and takes out a three iron (cos only sissies hit a wood for their second on a par 4) and proceeds to WAIT FOR THE GREEN TO CLEAR before taking 47 practice swings and then duffing it 10 yards ahead of him. Repeat ad nauseum (mine).

There are heaps of others but that one really does my 'nana.

Rough that is so rough, that you can't find your ball without forecaddies.

Big trees all around the tee box, making a narrow chute to drive through.

Young people in carts. Walk, you'll have more fun.

$$$ spent on hobby.

Bad swings stick around longer than the good ones.

Feelings of helplessness and despair.

Guilt that comes with spending as much time possible playing in the summer instead of spending it with my family.

The no win scenario of figuring out when can I play, when can I ask if it's ok to play, and realizing when it is not OK to play.

Finding an almost new HX Tour ball and then losing it with the very next swing.

Actually, slow play is probably the worst. Last time out we were stuck behind two "women". I thing they were dating. After waiting for every shot for about five holes I hear one of them say, "you're second drive was better than you're first but didn't go any further". I could see both and neither went more than about 100yds.

I didn't care that she couldn't hit a ball over 100yds, it's just that people are waiting, DON'T PLAY TWO BALLS BITCH.
