Was just wondering what make/model of ball each person uses. I've been switching balls lately and have found the Nike balls good all round.

    Are Titleist Pro V1'S overated?

Right now, I'm using Noodles that I bought on ebay. 48 used balls for $22 CDN. At the level that I'm playing at right now, I'd much rather lose those than a $5 ProV any day. There are so many good balls that can be had for less (don't even have to be a cheapo playing crappy used balls like me).

And before Rock gets to you...yadda yadda...HX Blue...blah blah etc etc. ;)

Me use Noodles too. Me love Noodles. Me love Noodles long time.

    You fairy...

Anyways, HX Blues are great, even if they are dashed by 'others'. They go long, stick on the greens and have great feel for putting. They're about 35 bucks a dozen, but if they fly straight, why worry about spending a few extra bucks on performance?

If it helps, I have a shag bag full of ProV's that I've found in the bushes as various courses around these parts. If that's any indication of how well they perform, I wouldn't buy any. But I am biased.... :)

I've heard good things about the new Wilson Staff 4 peice ball (even tho they look cheap, they supposedly have great feel). I've always liked Precept balls too.

If I had a vote, i'd say use the HX Blues. I have a couple of converted people here already.....more to follow, hopefully.. :p

I hate HX Blues. I've never used them, but I know they suck.

    LoCo

Low spin (I slice 'em - so spin balls are a bad thing) but good distance with my slow, old man swing. I think my quest for the "right ball" may be at an end.

Precept MC lady, thats right, i said it, people supposedly laugh but i can't hear them 20 yards ahead in the fairway the things just don't stop going

    Nike TA2/SPN are great also,

Are HX blues and HX tours basically the same or do they really make a difference to your game?

The HX Blues are a good ball. The BB Blues are horrid.

Since the original question wasn't about price, I will say the ProV1 is the single best golf ball ever made. That doesn't mean there are others that aren't possibly as good, but all my lowest/best rounds are with a V1 (regular flavor). I'll try other balls, and as soon as I go back to the V1, the scores, short game and confidence all get better.

I'm also playing the Maxfli BlackMax and it is great too. A good cheap ball is the Precept Laddie Extreme.

The Tours and Blues are NOT the same ball. The Tours truely are in a class by themselves. They're used my low handicappers, as they offer long tee balls and great spin and control.

However, for my tastes, you can't beat the price of the HX Blues considering the slight difference in distance that you might get with the Tours. I found myself maybe 10 yards longer with the driver, but the same with all my other clubs, and my distance control and spin were as good if not better. And 60 bucks a dozen versus 35 makes good financial sense too.

I honestly say that you should give them a shot. I get a tough time here because it's my biggest recommend on this site it seems (well, lets face it, it is!), but I can single handedly say that the Blue has been the biggest improvement in my game. When I heard nasty rumours that they were to be discontinued (thanks Dave!), I almost wept. I went and bought the "last two" boxes, only to find that they were just due for a log redesign. Buggers!...lol.

I'll tell you what. If you go and try a set of HX blues and don't like them, I'll buy a sleeve of whatever balls you want and mail them to you. I feel that strongly about them. And you can't beat a deal like that.

But, you have to give them a chance. One round of golf won't cut it. Take them out on a minimum of 6 rounds and learn them inside and out.

Trust me, you'll be cutting strokes off your game in no time with long, straight tee balls and irons that stick to the greens like darts.

Just be sure when you try them they are the HX Blue. Callaway makes other blue balls and the marketing and packaging is confusing.

HX Blues are a great ball though.
