Biggest isn't always best

I bought a Cobra 370SS driver a couple of years ago and I have set a new standard for myself off the tee. I have let a couple of my friends borrow it and it seems they were similarly fortunate with it. This encouraged them both to invest in some newer driving equipment, one bought a "plus 10" driver (the 460cc one that is advertised on the golf channel every 5 minutes) and the other bought the nike 460cc Ignite "OFFICIALLY THE ULTIMATE DRIVER OF 2005!! - "Golf World Official Test, August 2005""............ apparently. And they have both been crap. One wanted me to do a straight swap for the Nike driver which was very tempting seeing as there are several £'s difference between their monetary values. However I saw sense and refused. This started me thinking how many times in the past I have given up on a perfectly reasonable club to replace it with a newer better looking model at the expense of my wallet and my game, has anyone out there spent a fortune on a club that turned out to be best used for posing with?

If you find a good shop they can get you into something that will work, not just the latest thing.
We have guys shocked all the time that we advise them not to buy clubs that they came in for. A lot of times we let them take a driver out to try, we are across the stree from a golf course, and that way they can see the difference.
On used clubs we give them 2 days to bring it back for a 100% refund.

Good Choice! Once you pick it up you'll feel like you can hit the ball off the planet. Didn't mention it in the review but the X-Speed is a D3 swingweight.

I currently have 3 of the Cobra Comp Drivers in different lofts and I am having to really convince myself to only get the XX-Speed to have something to use for long drive competition practice. (I'm working out and doing flexibility training). I really want one of those X-Speeds for the course.

Like EnglishGolfer (I too am a Brit) I have had the SS370 for 2 years. I have posted on a different thread for recomendations for a reshaft because of bad bag wear. I cannot imagine hitting better or longer drives with any other driver.
The question is before I pay for the re-shaft what advantage would I get from the new Cobra Speed.

Swingweight is the relationship of the weight of the head of the club to the weight at the grip end. Think of balancing the shaft of your club on your finger. A D3 club would feel heavier than a D1 or C5 when swung even though both clubs could weigh the same in pounds and ounces. I'd have to guess that your club may be in the D2 range from what I know about Cobra clubs. You did hit the nail on the head though in noting that it really all comes down to how it feels to you.

The only thing I can say for sure is that the Speed would be more forgiving on off center hits. A Driver is a very personal thing. For instance to me the Taylormade R7 feels like a dead stick, other folks I know absolutely love it. Best thing to do would be to demo it somewhere. Then you can decide for yourself if the Speed (or other club) is a better driver for you.

Its a nice quote from a very humerous man, but it doesn't really hold true. If it did I'd still have my set of Dunlop cavity back clubs that I started with and be using Pinnacle or Commando golf balls.

Pinnacle has just released a new ball called Gold Long Drive. They are used in the Long Drive Contest and are USGA legal. I got an advance box and played 9 holes today with them and actually liked them as much as the ProV1 I normally use. They weren't bad around the greens ( I was able to spin them ) and are really long. I was absolutely crushing them today. They come 15 for 15 USD. They actually had some pretty good feel to them.
