I got XM satellite radio last month and love it!! Boatloads of music channels, plus weather, news and sports. I have about 8-9 music channels programmed into my little receiver and will never go back to traditional radio again. The sound quality is superb and the only time you cannot receive the signal is when you are in a deep parking garage or a tunnel...

XM has gotten approval from the Canadian government to put this into Canadian airspace...

http://www.xmradio.com/newsroom/screen/pr_2005_09_09.html

My guess is that they will take the music channels and add some Canadian-only news/weather/talk programming in place of the American stuff. If they do, you will love it...I would be flabbergasted if they did not have Every NHL game on the radio - for example.

Here are the channels currently available in the U.S.

http://www.xmradio.com/programming/full_channel_listing.jsp?sort=number

One of them is 24/7 hockey talk...

Oh yeah this is expensive...a Roady 2 radio now costs $30USD. Yes...thats "thirty dollars". And the service is $13/month...

Its the best little toy I have ever bought. Wife loves it, daughter etc. On any long drive it is a delight...listen to news and sports for awhile and switch to music...

The Roady 2 and its successor will soon have portable battery packs so you can take this little sucker with you while hiking or watching a ballgame outdoors - or even icefishing!! :canadafla

Yup, it's great! I don't have it but recently rode for 14 hours (total, both ways) w/ a friend that does.... especially like the comedy channel, they don't bleep out anything! Recently saw a couple ads saying that major golf events will also be available to listen to!

Interesting.

Personally, I can't stand radio. Too many ads and inane chatter. And for 30 bucks....well, i'd rather spend that on golf shoes.

Maybe if I lived in a big city and spent more than a hour a day in my car, it might be worth it. But as it is, my drive to work is 6 minutes....

FWIW - all the music channels are commercial-free...

See, we have this function on our digital cable. Something like 150 genres and themes, commercial free and in digital quality.

I think i've listen to it once.

The wife likes it. But now her IPOD and her are inseperable, so I doubt it will get much more attention.

Here's what I want. A cell phone that has 4GB of onboard memory for file transfers, and plays MP3's. I think that's not alot to ask, hey?

Maybe they have one available. Where's the Master on this, isn't he a Homey?

Check Samsung's stuff, they might have something.

And TM DID use the word "crib" in reference to a home earlier today, he truly is.

That is when it will really take off...when you can get live TV in the car. Forget the radio part--that's the innovation and the bomb....

I'm not with it all. I used to be with it, but then IT became other things, and the things that IT is now, are scary.

:D

I have a cell phone with a colour screen and a camera plus onboard memory. That's all I need. I've used the camera twice, once to see how the thing worked and another time to e-mail a colleague after taking a pic of his crotch under the table at coffee and setting up a temporary website called "Ralfscrotch.com".

It was extremely comical, but the extent of my use of the technology. I just could really care less.

I must admit I have bounced back and forth on this kind of thing over the years. Used to be, whenever something new came out - I sprang for it right from the start...then I often found I did not use it much - or at best I did not use all of the features of the gadget.

Now, I always wait to see how the product is accepted by the public. I always try to find reviews of products written by consumers...Amazon, Epinions and several UK sites are great for this.

When I am driving around town, I listen to the music channels 100%. I only listen to the news channels etc when on a trip.

None of the music channels have commercials and very very few even have a disc jockey (The 60's channel has one). So for the most part, the device is simply pouring music out continously. And once you pre-load your 6-8 favorite channels - you can find one that suits your mood at the time...

I still do not own an MP3 player - despite the fact that I have 17,000 songs in my PC hard drive. My wife and daughter asked this week if I wanted one for Christmas...I just don't think I would use it much...neither would I use a camera phone.

So I am with you on much of it. Some technology I love and other popular stuff I have no interest in at all...

I'll certainly consider it, although I'm like Rock in that most of my radio time is in the car driving to and from work. And that takes all of 7 minutes.

ah...that'd be the life

my commute to school is 37.5 kms each way (75/day) right through the heart of Vancouver (not the downtown core)...rush hour is anywhere from 50 - 80 minutes...off rush hour is more like...30 - 45...but it's my own stupid fault for living this far away...it's what I decided to do to live with my gf/have really really cheap rent (my half is $262.50) in a nice house in a nice neighbourhood

life could be worse

the point of all of that is that the XM might interest me because the radio in this town is starting to make me want to slit my wrists while I'm driving or direct my car head on in to a bus (I think I'd lose)...the only thing is that I like the radio because I like to hear what's new, musically...so XM might be just the thing for me
