I know several of the pros around here. I worked in the golf business for about 6 years. It's interesting that some of the pros here are great golfers and some of them can't play bogey golf. I don't understand being a club pro and barely able to break 90.

I thought you had to be a 2 HCP or better to be a club pro, then play qualifying events to keep up your status?

That doesnt make sense, cause that would mean they could be teaching scratch golfers how to golf when they themselves have a high handicap.

The assistant pro at the course I play is an old high school buddy. Haven't met the head guy yet.

I'm glad they've replaced the old pro and assistant. The old pro at my course was taking the cart fees to buy himself a ne car every couple of years. The figured out his game and got rid of him. Its a much cooler place to play golf now.

I agree it doesn't make sense. Believe me when I tell you that the pro at the course I worked for almost 6 years can't play a lick.

To be labelled a pro doesn't mean much. Any golfer could work at a golf course and label themself a pro. To be a PGA teaching pro, you have to meet certain guidelines. This is not to say that it is wrong for a mediocre golfer to label themself a pro, since a golf professional's job isn't to play golf. It is instead to teach the game and run the business. So though a person may average 90, if they can teach and get good results, they have fulfilled their purpose. It gives to the old saying "Those who can't do, teach." God Bless.
