Driving range fees

Figured I better hit the range up for a bit to be ready for the sunday outing with cholly, Doc, and hopefully a new fourth (sorry you are not able to make it ATL).
So I head on over to the University of Georgia course and range. New policy on the driving range - $4.00 for the first 20 minutes, $1.00 for every ten minutes over that. (had a chart showing you 0 to 20 minutes = $4.00 , 21 to 30 minutes = $5.00, carried on out to 61 to 70 minutes = $9.00. Guess college kids cant do the math?). unlimited balls, just pay for the time. this fee is also charged for time spent on the chipping and putting greens also.
Not sure if i like this or not. I guess I always figured that the chipping/ putting should be free.

Also kind of gets me that this is a taxpayer funded facility, and a yearly driving range only fee is $1100.00. One of the local courses will give you unlimited greens fees and driving range privleges for only $400 a quarter (and that includes the cart).

Doc, you alumni get a break, only $825.00 a year.

Not severely ticked or anything, figured I hit well over a large bucket and only cost me $6.00, just wondered if this was common or what. comments?

Damn...I've never heard of a business model like that one. Pretty stiff.

That sounds about right pricewise. Of course I'd have the fastest swing tempo on the planet trying to hit 400 balls for $9.00.

It is definitely a strange way of doing things. The range I go to has tokens for "large" buckets (they only have one size). I can get 1 for $6, 2 for $10 ,or 5 for $20. They have no putting green but do have a grass area to hit from. There is another one a little closer but they are outrageous. I think it's $12 for a large. They charge $15 for the pitch and putt course and I think $20 for the lame little par 3 course I can tee off SW on nearly every hole. They have a practice green for the course so when I used to go there I would spend a good amount of time on the practice green to "offset" my cost.

I think a time modeled driving range is absurd. I spend 6 dollars on a large bucket and usually take an hour, to an hour and a half hitting it. I like to take my time and think about my swing, I hate feeling rushed.

I am totally with you on that one, especially charging for use of the chipping green? WHat is that all about?

Bravo, its not a business or freemarket enterprise, its the government :) They haven't got to make a profit. But I wont go political here.

Glad to know there are others here who watch their coins Ezra.
Am kinda tempted by the $400 for three months greens fees and cart at my usual course.

My sunday round there costs $31. (I get senior rates :) LOL only 49) So would really save some coins in the long run. And try to play at least once on mon. tues. or thurs as it is all day for $22. Should get at least a month or month and a half for free if I take the quarterly membership.

The course is a fair challenge and slowly but consistantly getting improvements. There were a few bad spots on a few of the greens, but they are gone now, they just made the greens smaller :) . 13 is a temp green right now as they rebuilt the actual one. Have also seen a few new marshalls on the weekends ( seen em riding around, havent seen em do anything yet LOL). sorry blathering here

10.00 an hour is what I pay for the indoor range, and like Ezra said it makes me swing too fast. Not good Outdoor is 2.50 per 35

I pay a one time $100 fee at one of the clubs I belong to and can hit all the balls I want for an entire year.

Two or three years ago, I had it worked out at the same club that I could hit all the balls I wanted to for free if I would just run the range picker around a couple of times and pick some of the balls. And on top of that, the pro at the time would give me a free lesson once a week because he felt like I was getting the short end of the stick.

Yes, I realize that I have got it made when it comes to "range plans".

I make use of two options here in Houston. Memorial Park - $7.00 for a large bucket of balls (@ 90), or Wildcat Golf Club - $49.00 per/month for unlimited range balls.

my deal starts the 15th which i'm really geared up for, unlimited balls until december 15th for 100, considering their biggest bucket is 13 bucks for 190 balls which i plan to hit once every other day....that thing will be payed off quickly!

timed range.....i couldn't do it...i like to really take my time, and go through my routine every shot, otherwise i don't feel i reach the real potential of my practice time.

You guys get worked on range balls.

I pay 70 bucks a year for a 20 bucket punch pass. That's XL buckets, 120 per. No lineups, no Schedule 146 to fill out for my taxes, nothing.

You do the math.

Thats a great deal. How long does it take too hit 120. I try too time my shots so I spend 45 minutes for a small bucket at the range, christ with 120 I'd be there all day.

I pay $60 per year for unlimited balls...it is mandatory if you play golf. It appears on your bill and you pay it.

When you go out to the range, there are huge buckets of balls - each one probably holds about 250 balls. I hit almost an entire bucket one day and wore out my back. If your bucket runs low, they come out and pour another new bucket in there.

On the other hand, the monthly dues are $350 - just to say hello...so it ain't cheap....
