I found some old 90 compression Bridgestone Rextar balata balls in my old bag not long ago and decided to give 'em a whack. What a load of crap they were, more of the ball was in my grooves than on the course after a few hits! I know they don't age well, but I remember that they used to do this when new. Considering they cost nearly as much as Pro V1's do now, it just shows how good a ball the Pro V1 must be to give such control and durability.
I also found some Maxfli A10's, might as well have been made of wood.
