I usually get somewhere between 1700-2200K from my cable modem.

then, yesterday afternoon it started running like maple syrup on a cold Vermont morning.

Ima getting a whopping 89K from the dude right now. Cable company is sending somebody out to check the lines today.

What a pain in the neck

What kind of speeds do you guys get and what do you pay per month?

I pay $45

Maple syrup? Is that a shot against Canadians? ;)

I usually run anywhere between 1600-1900. I pay 44CDN a month, bundled with our digital cable. Our cable sucks tho. There are some good channels, but it's all full of garbage, and satellite is even worse.

I just measured mine at 900 using this site . Mine fluctuates a lot though depending on how much porn my neighbors are downloading. They must be taking a break as it is sometimes lower than 900.

I pay $48/month.

Buddha:

Google up "Internet speed checker" and you will find several sites that allow you to run a quick check. I usually use the CNET site.

I hate it when this happens and it is Always something out on the line/pole in the neighborhood that causes it.

I have been trying to get back to this post for 15 minutes - its that bad...

My alternative here is BellSouth DSL, which is more reliable but quite a bit slower...

1717.9 kbps on our TA3 at work thru a firewall using the site Bravo sent. Not sure what my cable at home browses at... I can DL porn at about 300 kbps though.

Just so you guys know the rates you are quoting are more than likely a tad exaggerated by the testing site since the site basically loads one small (20k per example) page and times it.

In the real world DL's are much longer and page size may vary. Check out the following link that does several tests against a variety of page sizes. http://www.dslreports.com/stest.

Bravo's site: 1717.9 kbps
DSLReports: 901 kbps

4139 down? Is the server in your ass?

That's insane. It's pretty much prime time right now (about 8 o'clock) and i'm getting 900 max.

My laptop is alot slower than the desktop tho, keeping that in mind.....but not that much.

Must be nice... :(

man, we're on DSL here and get a max of about 200 KB/sec down and probably something like 50 up, so are your guys speeds kbps or KB/sec? Please tell me is kbps or I'll feel severely inadequat.

We pay about $35 or $45 CDN I think (I'm not sure, I don't get that bill).

Well he came out yesterday as promised but could not find a problem.

Said the signal strength was perfect. Then indicated he was going to send someone out to check the 'tap' today.

I boot up this morning at 2691...Back blazing...

Now this thing is going up and down like a roller coaster.

About 15 minutes ago, it slowed down to 125K....then two tests on different sites that ran at 2500+.

What can cause this??

Updating and hardware fixes. If they change any hardware, the network goes into "suspension". At least, that's what happens here.

It's usually not that long, but on occassion, people get "frozen in time" to where their connection sorta times out. Basically, if you unplug your modem, and plug it back in a minute later, you should re-register with your hub on a faster connection as a post-upgrade/time out sign on.

Sometimes, what seems as the most simple shit is the answer. You can't knock a Coke machine over without rocking it first. Or so I've heard.... ;)
