Actually I do have a copy of the Rules of Golf, somewhere......

Thanks, everyone, esp. Augster, for explaining all of this so clearly and succintly. :)

If I would just learn to hit my tee shots straighter, I wouldn't have these problems.

That guy you played with sounds like I guy I was paired with for regionals, he thinks he knows the rules so well he makes ones up himself that sound senseful.
