After some revisiting to my grip, and temporarily vanquishing my old friend the smother-hook, I went out today for 18 holes with my son.

I carded a solid 77 to get below 80. The flat-stick was on fire. The driver straight... It was nice to leave the course with so few stupid shots given away. Maybe I'll make it a habit?

(No, rock, I don't mean a nun's dress...)

Mmmmmm. You and Bravo both. Must be a late season thing.

Or a Christmas present.... ;)

What'd you do to fix the hook?

Not so complicated, thankfully. Weakened my grip.

Great score. I have a 1:16 tee time at Forest Hills today (Saturday). I'm taking my new driver out to play. :)

Good luck, Sib. I'm leaving out now. Hopefully the Christmas spirit sticks around today, too.

Back out this morning on a cold and blustery day. Wind was strong, and the new grip was till feeling uncomfortable. Inauspicious start with 3 double-bogies in a row. But I settled in to a groove and finished with an 81. All-in-all, I'm still feeling good about the direction I'm headed.

Merry Christmas all!

Good score. My day wasn't so good. The course was packed with 4somes, and the starter got us off 20 min late. :( Clouds came in and it got dark early so I only finished 16.

The good news is that the 983K is the cat's pajamas. :D Straight & long. I was outdriving the other 3 guys in my pickup 4 some. Of course 1 of them was 79 years old, but I was older than the other 2 by 20 years.

The bads news was that I couldn't hit any other club! After 9 holes I figured out that I wasn't shifting my weight back to the left. Duh.

I'm liking your signiture, Sib., lad. Is that really the case in Georgia - it is too warm for many months, then too cold the rest ?! What are the typical temperatures for certain months of the year there >? I am thinking of going to either there or South Carolina for a year or two, you see.

Can you also translate the figures to degrees celsius for me too please..;) :)

The sig is a bit of an exageration. :)

Our winters are generally mild. Today the high will be 59F (15C ?) and the low tonight will be 32F (0C). Good golfing weather except all the courses are closed. We do get the occasional ice storm, which ices the roads, breaks the limbs off of pine trees and knocks out the electricity. then we all freeze to death.

Back in the 1930s, before the Interstate highways was built and air conditioning was common and Florida was developed, Augusta was actually a resort destination, via rail, for rich Yankees coming south for the winter. The course I play at was a Donald Ross design that was the private property of a big hotel (now gone).

Now Augusta is still a destination for rich Yankees, but only for the first full week in April.

Summer is hot. Highs in the high 90Fs and lows in the 80Fs. Although it can get well over 100F (37.8C) in August which is when I quit for 1-2 months. And HIGH humidity, always.

How have you weakened your grip, out of curiousity? I've had to do the same, with my right hand, plus I'm fiddling with my left thumb a bit.

I generally try to play with a more neutral/slightly weak grip, but my tendency is for it to creep stronger if I'm not keeping an eye on it. As yours, it's usually the right one that tends to go strong. My reminder is to grip with my right hand by pulling it in vertically from the side, instead of wrapping it onto the club. This usually puts it in the right position and takes away the tendency to have it too far under.

It's a helluvan uncomfortable adjustment to feel right again, but pays off for me when it is right.

Yep,it took me several weeks and a lot of balls to weaken my right hand, and I've stopped trying to weaken my left hand, although its hardly strong, just not in the 'Hogan' position with the left thumb bang on top of the shaft, its slightly to the rtight.

These small changes have made a big difference to me,the face is now sqaure at the top and i'm thus far more consistent

You too, B! The coolest thing about the card is that my 8 years old son insisted on signing the attest for it. So, Scorer has "World's Greatest Dad", and the attest is signed by him. Now THAT is better than the score. lol

Keep those scores down, B. And I hope all is well and sunshine for you, man!

:)

Great story! I am looking forward to the day when my boy is big enough to play. We bought him his first "non-plastic" golf set this year (driver, 6iron, wedge, putter). He'll be whacking balls into the net this spring I hope!

Nice score BTW ;)
