How long do you reckon you should have a set of irons for before you re-grip them ? I have had mine a good while now, but have yet to re-grip 'em. Wanting the full-cord Tour Velvets, but I love my regular T.Velvets with the Taylor Made branding on the reverse of the grip. Perhaps needing a couple of fresh grips on my irons, but overall they're still in good, tacky order.
What do you guys use to clean 'em up / make them nice n' tacky ?

Finally, what do you all think of the grip that comes with the R7 ? Poor enough, imo. A mate of mine sells grips and headcovers, etc, so I'm gonna mail him to sort me a couple of the full cords and a nice Popeye headcover for my 3-wood; the cover of that club has faded badly. . .

In tough times, I've used some fine grit sandpaper and duct tape. In even tougher times, I've used stolen scraps of rough grit sandpaper and twine.

I agree. I hate full cords. They destroy gloves and are murder on your hands. I've also noticed that in the winter the full cords tend to slip because your hands are dry. My favorite is the old G.P. Tour Velvet Mid-Size. Can't go wrong there.

I usually use soapy water to clean my grips. Use basic dish soap. It cuts the oil and tends to make the grip tacky again. I've read that some recommend using rubbing alcohol to clean your grips. I've always thought that alcohol would dry the rubber out, but supposedly it works well.

Yep,I agree,I will say this again in the vain hope Andy reads it sober and actually remembers it,but full cords are awful if you practice a lot. They really do make your hands sore and gloves were lasting me a week, not kidding.Thats only about 700 balls and the glove was toast.

I re-grip twice a year, wether it needs it or not. Good grips are essential to good play.

Plus then you can't use the old excuse "Oh, my grips are so worn, I have to change these things one of these days.....":D

I think the question should be have you - dave. - been drinking again ?! The last thread I started in regard to "Grips" was asking the question of "types" of grips. This is different.

And what is the big problem with drinking, anyway >?! Just because you are English / American and couldn't drink soup. Get off your high horse, ffs !

there we go - a post that involves me drinking. So you think that if you drink you forget things that are posted ?! When did I ever say I was that pissed I would have forgetten things that I posted, huh ?!! I had a few when I posted that American Handicap thing, therefore spoke my mind more than perhaps I may have done totally sober, and didn;t hold back in what I was writing. I didn't regret writing one word of it, because it is my opinion, and all, or at least most of it is true.
Now dry your eyes, and get a life, ffs

I cannot get over you reading that, you fukking spoon !! :D

P.S. I have written it before, and I'll write it again; I was talking about TOUR VELVET FULL CORDS; they are nowhere near as harsh or abrasive-feeling as the other corded grips out there.

You're probably that crap that you don't grip the club correctly, hence wasting / ruining your gloves, davvvvvvvvvve !

Andy - relax. Your defensive side isn't your best one to put it lightly. Learn to take things a little less seriously, watch your language, and you'll get along much better here.

Lol,you are so easy to wind up Andy,or you just haven't got a sense of humour at all.I will remind you that you jokingly said you had a few drinks when you accused the US conributors of being lying, cheating war-mongers.So sorry, you will just have to suffer some polite piss-taking for a bit longer. If you last that long, you do seem to be a slightly over-wrought individual.

chill-out dude:)

Not as many as I'd like.

I would say a good summer for me would be around 35-40 rounds, plus practice time, which I'm sad to say, hasn't been a whole lot lately. I have to get in as many as I can, being up here in the land of ice and snow (Canada).

I usually change my grips in the fall while the white stuff is coming down to be ready in the spring. Then, I change them again after about 20 rounds or so. I use Tour Velvets, and some guys might shake their head at me saying "but they're not even worn out!". You'd be surprised how well good, new grips impact your game, especially if you're a feel player. That grip is what's connecting you to the club.
