I get one Kitchen Pass per week....

This weekend, there was a wrinkle in time and I played like my batchelor days. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Played Friday afternoon with a good friend - first afternoon round since June. I stay out of the heat in summer and its finally cooled down to Warm here.

We played from the tips at the home course - 6811 136 slope. Shot 7 over on the front and 1 over on the back for an 80.

Saturday - I play the IV tees - much much shorter at 6250 and whaddaya know - I balloon up to an 89. I just packed it in after 8 and waited for it to be over....

Sunday - Today playing Shoal Creek. A couple of majors here (PGA 84 and 90). We played the 4 Star tees. Approximately 6800 yards. I was really tired when we started and could not get it going on the front. Bogey golf for a 9 over 45...

Just really tired when we started the back and got it going. Shot a 2 over on the back with 1 birdie and 2 close misses to card an 83...Was very pleased to finish par-birdie-par on a course that has hosted two majors. While our tees were not at championship position, these were challenging holes from where we played them. And I think that there is an art to playing when you are tired.

Was playing with my 30 year old nephew and his best friend. While they could get it a bit past me on their best drives - they were in the woods all the time. Yours truly hit quite a few in the 260-270 yard range but right in the shortgrass...

They were centurians and the old man taught em a thing or two here.

Honestly, I don't think I'll play next weekend.

Golfed out...

Makes you think the guys on tour really have a lot of stamina.
A good thing the Senior Tour is only 3 days.

That's good stick, Bravo, for an old guy. ;)

I know exactly where you were when you said "I packed it in and waited for it to be over". I hate that feeling, but sometimes you just know that you don't have it that day, hey?

I played a round about a month ago where i shot a nice 73. My game was feeling good, all around. I set out the next day for a round and shot 44 on the front and packed it in. I just left after 9 as i knew i just didn't have it. Fatigue, focus, call it what you want, it just wasn't there. I know that's a terrible attitude, but sometimes you just have to nip it in the bud. I hit the range and pulled myself into shape. I played a good round after those range sessions before settling in to 4 consecutive rounds of utter garbage.

Gotta love this game, hey?

Thanks for the note. You have reinforced what I am thinking right now.

And that is - hit the range. I think I may try to hit balls for a couple of weeks and stay away from the course. I have not been practicing enough lately and need to hit practice balls quite a bit.

Maybe you could devote a crazy amount of time on the shortgame too. I've been kicking myself to do less range work and more chipping and putting work. Unfortunately sloth takes over and I watch tv instead. :(

Really?

Man, i love the range. It gets me away from everything and allows me to think. Funny how sometimes i go and hit a full bucket and get into a groove where i don't even think about swing. Then i'm out of balls.

If i could play golf everyday, i would. Range, course, putting green, whatever.

Couldn't agree more with this. Went to range Sat. to hit a couple of buckets. When I was done with those I noticed there were at least two more buckets left by guys who were just warming up. I gathered those up and hit them too. Then went to chipping and putting green for a while. I could live there but my wife would leave me. :D

Sounds like she'd get the house and everyone would be happy.....

So, when are we getting married? I think that's only the natural direction to head towards. ;)

Just checked with my wife and it turns we are agreeing on where to move. (We've been house hunting) Both of us actually like the same subdivision. It has a great practice area and the #2 rated public course in the country, by Golf Inc. Mag. Sorry Rock but it looks like I'll be staying with her. She gets the house she wants and she'll never have to worry about where I am.

Now if I can only sell my house.
