I am a student a Drexel University, and I am working on a system for a Personal Digital Assistant that Golfers could use. It is a design project and I want to get a feel for who my users are.

In an attempt to determine the wants and needs of the users I created a survey and am posting it on various golf fan sites. I would be very appreciative if any of you could fill out this survey.

The survey can be found here: http://www.createsurvey.com/c/27168-KPWIE8/

    Thank you again.

    Ryan,

Good first post. You were honest and forthcoming, something that lacks in alot of marketing jerks out there.

I filled out your survey. I somewhat questioned the validity and necessity of some of the questions (annual income and level of schooling for PDA use?), but I guess that can be said with any survey.

Good luck in your endevour. :)

    Ryan:

Your product is one of the very few that I feel has any real potential....

My golf groups play a variety of wagers that vary from week to week according to a number of factors. An issue for us is entering each player's handicap on a paper scorecard and then computing net scores relative to posted gross. We then frequently will compute the lowest two scores from foursome (fourball) group A vs. foursome(fourball) group B.

We also play Stablefords and Nassaus which are known as Ham and Eggs in other areas....we need something to score all of this too.

Additionally, we pay "trash" for birdies, closest to the pin, sandies, etc.

Having a PDA calculate all of this in an instant - without dispute - would be valuable and I think many golfers throughout the world would buy it....

    Good luck.

Another thing you may want to focus on is where to mount the PDA, in the cart / on your golf bag, etc... I wouldnt want to cary a PDA in my pocket, it would throw off my swing. It would have to be mounted somewhere easy to get to and secure so it does not fall off.

I just took your survey, good luck to you.

You may already be planning this but you might consider having your PDA be a full function machine that people could use for more than just golf. Sort of a PDA plus.

Or just a program for existing and future PDA's....there are alot of them out there....

    Just a thought.

I took for granted that was what he was doing. Surely he isn't developing a new product when he can just write software to an existing technology.

Good luck, but many of your questions on the survey were pretty useless and intrusive for your stated purpose. My level of expertise in my business is frankly none of your busineess, since it doesn't pertain to my use of a palm pilot for keeping rounds. Sorry, but stay on track to your stated purpose or skeptics such as myself may see this as a statistical database build/sell endeavor. Similarly, my level of education, my annual income, my occupation.

If this is in regard to a pda scorekeeping/statistical device, then your questions became useful at about #15. Most everything else was just intrusive.

Hi, my name is Steve and I initiated the idea for my senior design class last term. That class is continuing with senior design 2. This idea spans across my human computer interaction class, senior design, and possibly system analysis 2 class.

The questions for the survey so far has mainly touched on the feasibility of the product. Creating a pda solution for everyone to use can be difficult if no one wants to use it.

We have another survey in mind with the prototype user interfaces to see if they are intuitive and approachable without discomfort.

Personally I have only played golf for a few years in high school so we would like to find out from amateur to professional skill level if such an idea can work if done right.

I know there are other software options out there, but none that seemed to take this approach.

I look forward to coming close to producing a product that can influence the golf world if it can make a difference.

    Steve,

I'm willing to give your product a try if you need a guinea pig.... :canadafla

I'm sure alot of us here would be.

unfortunatly i would only be able to post screenshots of the interface

The interface was designed through using filemaker pro 7, there is no simple way to convert this to a genuine program without some real coding going on. I am not a software programer. So basically this could work if a frontend for a database could be created for pocket pc/palm software with maybe a mysql backend.

    Gotcha.

I have a PDA at work that I never use. It sits in it's cradle all day, updating every morning. But I really have no use for it.

But, if it held my golf stats.... :p

So with your last post, you are developing a system that has to have another program to execute it on a palm.

Then you post a survey that is very intrusive. What is your point? Are you working with a group to finish it? Why ask those questions if this is just a class project that will not be a finished product?
It is sounding like BS to me.
I have used a program at a tourney with the PDA mounted to the steering wheel. You posted your score and it used blue tooth to show a live score board in the pro shop.
Where are you trying to take your project?

    PdA

I would be interested in something like this. I am willing to test it too.

Much better. I would still like to find out is you are going to try and market this or is it just a project.
