An acquaintance swears that 95+% of the clubs used by Pros are not available to the public...I say that may be true to a small degree but most are available, just haven't been tweaked (loft changed, lie angles, swing weights, etc) to the Pros specs.

Many pros play prototype stuff that is being developed for future release. Also, the OEMs will tweak the clubs with custom grindings and such.

What he says is true. Clubs, shafts, wedges, balls (like the Callaway HX Tour 56 that Phil plays right now) are mostly prototypes made specifically for tour players that may release to the market later on (like the Callaway Fusion FT-3 being released on July 4th, and the recently released ProForce V2 shaft that Adam Scott has been playing with). Most clubs are close to what you can buy. Most drivers are bent to neutral or slightly open. Some clubs are made spicifically for a player, usually the drivers and putters. The putter Mickleson is using is the only one like it in the world.
The shafts they use are where the real difference is. They almost always have prototype shafts that do spicific things for that pro, unfortunatly most of us humans do not have the club speed to work these shafts properly ( though some beleive they can) so the clubs are worthless except for showing off.
Bomb squad is a good site but the ruler their dosn't like to be wrong.
