Looks like you have a chance to join my Hurricane Club...this is a Big One and coming straight at the Republic of Texas.

I've got two cousins and a brother-in-law in Houston. Don't have a clue what they are planning...

I'll bet you will get some wind and rain and be fine. Looks like it is beginning to head in a more easterly path at this point.

25% of the U.S. national gasoline refining capacity is located in the path of the storm. If these refineries are knocked out - get ready for $5 per gallon gas prices!!!

I was thinking about you and your generator yesterday when they were showing the projected path. If it comes this way we may need one but it's starting to look like a nonevent for us.

If it keeps moving east I'm not sure we'll get more than a little wind and rain. But if it hits a little further west they said we could have catagory 1 winds all the way up here. Wild.

This thing's a effin monster. If it makes a direct hit on Houston we're screwed for sure on gas prices and we'll all have to get ready for increases on our insurance as well. I heard one estimate that as many as 120,000 homes might be completely destroyed.

At least they were smart enough to get buses into Galveston to get people out who couldn't do it on their own.

Yes I am very happy to hear about the superb reaction from Galveston's residents. The path looks grim for that location now...

The gas price thing I think is very substantial. If we have a major hit on our refining capacity - we may experience substantial shortages. It may be difficult to buy gasoline - at any price - if we were to take a 20% hit in refining capacity.

I bought 25 gallons this morning and stashed in my back shed. Gonna keep the tanks topped off on the cars too.

Weirdly, I am heading down to Miami on Saturday for a 4-day convention...it will be strange to watch it all play out while I am away from my wife/kids....

That's a good idea. After Katrina hit there were temporary shortages here for a few days. I have an 8 gallon can I'll fill tommorow just in case I have to go looking for a generator.

They've downgraded it to a 4 but that's still gonna suck for whoever gets the direct hit.
