Hey sling, a question...

The hoing continues. For the last 8 months, I have been in search of a 3 wood that will actually perform somewhat straight and quasi-long. Every club in my bag, including the driver performs quite well for me more often than not. But I haven't been able to find a 3 wood that I can hit. It probably has to do with my swing change and the need for neutral setup clubs. Now the question...

How you like the Adams Tight Lies 16* you said you have. In WalMart this morning, I saw one clearanced and smiling at me. I swear it was pawing the rack like a dog in the pound scratches at its cage when a potential adoptee walks through. It really did leave me no choice but to shell out the pocket change and give it a home. I've hit exactly 5 balls with it into the pasture. Amazingly, it went straight, even hit "cold" and no stretching. But I have little idea of distance compared to other 3 woods. At 16*, how do you find yours compares to other 3 woods, and which 3 woods have you compared to it?

Thanks. ;)

I have retired it. I was never any good at hitting fairway woods, I usually opt for the long iron, BUT....I like the Adams, I don't have to swing very hard to get it to go a long way...225-230ish.

It has a very small face so good contact is helpful.

I now have a Bang 5 wood and a cheesy Wilson "walmart" 3 wood that is very similar to the Adams but with a deeper face.

For the price, the Adams is sort of club that you don't feel bad about binning if you hate it or get tired of it...I kept mine in the bag for about 3 years.

This made me laugh out loud in my office.

"Hey Sling, you love your Adams, right?"

"No, it's now holding up one of my wife's plants. Sorry to get your hopes up."

LOL.

Well done, gents.

bd, if it doesn't work out go try the Cobra SZ 3 wood. It's easy to hit and long.
When I really connect I can get as much as 250 out of it that's a good drive for me.

Of course it can't compete with Walmart prices, but a true ho wouldn't let that stand in his way. ;)

Cobra doesn't work for me. It seems all of their woods have some amount of offset, which kills me. Once upon a time, with a swing far, far away in the recesses of memory-- sometime last year-- I hit my Loco 3 woods like it was forged on the anvils of heaven. But, alas, swing changes and a set of blades later, and ANY offset is nothing but mistakes left. So, the beloved Loco was "retired".

I've had a helluva time finding a 3 wood that works. Driver, no problem. Short, mid, long irons? Butter. 3 Wood? Whatever.

BUT... I think this Adams may be the ticket. I've hit several balls with it and it is either straight, or even a slight push. Not sure on distance, but all appearances hint that distance is good. I'll see at the range or on the course.

Thanks for the input all, except you Sling. You get me all hot and bothered, extolling the virtues of the Adams and then "retire" it because of its performance without telling. You Moe...

BD, let us know what you decide on. I'm not a fan of off-set woods either. I'd like to find fairway woods that don't have the off-set. I asked a clerk at Ed Watts about it sometime back and his response was just, "Those are hard to find." Not even a suggestion.

Don't despair BD......It's the indian, not the arrow, remember? I suck, I could never hit a fairway wood to save my life but the Adams was the first one I ever had that I could hit, so I loved it. Alas, all good things must come to an end, the ho in me needs to be placated. :)

bd, which Adams?

I use an Ovation 7W and everyone I know loves it, we even ended up picking up an Ovation 3W for my buddy for his bday last year and he loves it and the playa from the local golf shop uses an Ovation 3W as well. They're money. And they come in offset or regular. We all play regular...offset sucks donkey dink.
