Or anyone else that may have used this mat. Golfsmith is offering it for sale but the company that makes it is from the UK so I thought some of you might have seen one at a range.

I'm thinking of getting an outdoor net for practice but I hate hitting off mats. This is really expensive but looks like it would more realistic and more importantly less painful.

Any first hand knowledge would be apreciated.

Hey thanks. They're just so damned expensive but over time I guess it would work out.

Dave, I took the physio's advice on Saturday and went to a range in Delgany that have gel filled mats, gotta say they are the business.

My shoulder didn't give me any grief, unlike standard mats where I'd start getting pain after about 60 balls.

I'd just about written the idea off but now I'm kinda sold on it again. I'm gonna have to be real nice between know and Christmas to convince the wife that this isn't stupid.

There is a range near me that uses these. I suspect that they are great when new, but these ones are well abused and don't work at all any more. The Gell stuff has gotten all puffed up and you can't keep a ball on it without stepping on it first, and it doesn't seem to react well anymore. I don't know how long the range has had them, and they might work better for an individual user rather than being pounded on all the time at a range.

On the other hand, one of the practice facilities I use has these fibrebuilt mats and they work great:

Mats

I have to tell you if you want realsim then there is only one unit and that is the gel one www.truestrike.com I had a fiber unit and as you are hitting off of bristles it is like playing from a tee. real simple to hit but not realistic. If you get fat on the ball you still get a god shot away. Admittedly you are using the top half of the face, but you can kid yourself you hit a good shot. With the Truestrike units a fat shot is a fat shot. The report about them looking tatty when I spoke with the rep from Truestrike he explained about it and convived me that the unit has come a long way and can take up to 25 - 35,000 strikes before the top needs replacing which he said was just $35.00.

I had a set of Pings fitted in Phoenix at their fitting centre they have them throughout I was sold the first ball I hit. If Ping believe inn them that much them me my net and a Truestrike seem a good combination!! Mine arrives in a few days I hope.
