See how the mighty fall!

I played in a competition on Saturday and shot my worst score for a long, long time.

Imagine it all going horribly wrong. Imagine playing with a bunch of great players and hitting two snowmen in 6 holes. Imagine a front nine of 47 with 5 pars! I can't recall hitting one shot flush all day. I managed to hit 5 fairways all day but was some 40 yards back on my normal yardage! Hooks, blocks, scuffs (I can't recall a shank, but I'm sure there was one in there!) Even my putter was like ice.

I'm proud that I didn't throw any clubs, yell any obscenities and that I finished the round (even though the thought entered my mind at the 9th). I was embarassed playing in front of playas and really hacking it up. And much as I tried to enjoy it, it was very hard.

It's funny how when your swing goes, it just goes! No feel, no touch etc. It's nausiating and degrading. And I have the bigest tourney of the year coming up this Sunday. Waht a confidence wrecker!

All was not lost however. It just goes to show what a mad game this is, as I played with my bro-in-law yesterday and hit the ball 100% better. I just hope it was one of those days on Saturday.

Welcome to our world.

Don't fret it. It'll be back in form by the next tee ball. Keep the chin up, Celt.

This is always how it goes for me. Just about the time I think I understand my swing I find myself standing on the tee box with an unfamiliar foreign object in my hand.

"It's a golf club", my friend tells me. "What do I do with it?" I ask. "Hit towards the green up there". "Oh, ok sounds like a fun game let me try. "Oooowwweee, that hurts".

Actually, I've become Captain Hook again and while I know it'll go away I'm going a bit crazy waiting for it to happen. Good luck in your tourney, I'll bet it was just a fluke.

Been there. This is the number one reason guys like us don't have any illusions about doing this sort of thing competitvely. We can't string all the best round together. Example, this weekend I went 85-76????

Cheers Dudes
I just had a call from himself, Dave Ireland and we had a laugh (he too hacked it up on Saturday, musta have been something to do with this Forum!). Sometimes you need a wake-up call / reality check! Thanks Dave!

As for this tourney on Sunday coming, it's an open Scratch Cup for h/cs of 5 and above. Right up my Park Avenue...until now! I was kinda hoping to be in the shake up for this. Now I'm hoping I just don't embarass myself. Imagine 36 holes of torture!!

I've gotta get the PMA mojo going! And perhaps hit a few practice balls before now and then!!!!!

Teh Master. Fancy playing?? Or are you too good now?

IG:

I often find that the Disaster Round precedes some very solid play to follow.

I had a similar round about three weeks ago, when on a Thursday afternoon - I shot an 86 and was completely destroyed in my wager with my partner. We lost three bets on the front, two on the back and of course, the 18. It is hard to lose $12 on a $2 Nassau....

The following weekend, I placed 3rd in my flight at the member-member tourney and picked up $100 in merchandise at the pro shop.

Sometimes these rounds are a way of flushing out the system of the bad shots...unfortunately it happens all in one 5 hour period.

I'll bet you are back on form next time.

Funny you should mention that, B.

Wed, I shot the worst round of the year. I literally considered quitting the game it was so bad, and I was so frustrated. I vowed to stay hand-off golf for a while, but was rooled out of bed when the low-ball group called Saturday morning and arm-twisted me onto the course.

I shot a stellar round, the team (as the B man) took the $ on front 9, back 9 and some birdie skins $ for myself.

Last night, I took my son for 9 in the evening. I shot 38 for 9 holes, and that was with 3 3-putts.

I should "quit" more often.
