played a shorter course today, lots of par 3's, our foursome was playing a scramble, me and my grandpa against my uncle and dad,
my irons were great today on the back nine and i had several close calls,

#10, short par 3 about 107 yards, took out a gap wedge and hardly swang.... sooring ball flight, dead straight, about as it reaches its apex i say "get in" it comes down and nails the pin and stops dead about 3 inches away, probably the closest i've ever been,

#14, nother short par 3 about 120, i pull out a pitching wedge and kinda hit it off the toe, but it draws back and goes straight over the flag and sticks about 5 ft. my grandpa (partner) put his to three ft on a great shot,

#16 longer par 3 about 150 yards, downhill off the face of a dam, i hit a soaring 7 iron with a nice 1 yard draw, takes forever to come down and hits about 6 inches from the pin, but due to the slanting green we hit into it rolls back to about 10 ft.

our team ended up shooting -3 for an easy win,

at this rate one has to go in sometime...... i can just feel it coming soon, i'm so close and i really think my game has advanced in the last two weeks or so , i know so much more about my game than i had before,

thanks for reading, sorry about the length

Best of luck. I hope you remember to bring cash with you so you can buy a round of drinks for everyone at the 19th hole when you do make it.

I think I've played that course! Isn't it about 15 miles east of Lawrence right off I10?
Maybe just east of Eudora? A friend used to have a yearly tournament there to benefit the SIDS foundation.

I think it is great that you get to play with your grandfather. You will never forget it as you grow up and have kids of your own...

I think the ace will come for you. You are a good player and have so many years ahead of you...

i'm not all that positive of the area, the town is called DeSoto, but that description sounds pretty right, its kind of a junk course, to have a fair chance you have to play preferred lies, or take a carpet with you to find some grass

Here's the opposite point of view...

My last league night before vaca I hit a nice 4 iron into a par 3. The guys on the team we were playing were sure it was in the hole. We couldn't really tell for certain since the hole was playing about 200 yards and the green was elevated.

While walking up to the green, I kept saying to myself - "Please don't be in, Please don't be in..." There are 48 two man teams in our league and an ace would have cost me somewhere in the $200 range.

As it turned out the pin was way in the back and I was a good 12 feet short, but from the tee, I was a tiny bit nervous. Hopefully you're first ace will come with only a few people in the bar :)

PS - I paid my buck later that day for the member insurance "just in case" :D

Yep, Youngun, that's it. You're right, pretty much a goat pasture....several driveable holes, no grass, etc...only time I've seen a silo next to a green! LOL!

I had my h in 1 on foreign soil - where IG's people refuse to adhere to EU policy and adopt the euro as the common currency - nett result being I didn't have enough of the queen's shilling in my pocket for a round of drinks in the bar clubhouse.

In saying that IG lives in a remote part of the island where they still conduct the barter system and I think you can still marry yer sister once she's over the age of 14, a good looking wife can still get ya a herd of cows 2 chickens and a billy goat. So if I'd been thinking straight I could've reached into my bag and flogged the 580XD for the price of a round of drinks or alternatively I spose I could've traded for a nice 16 year old (girl) ...as if I needed to say ... tho knowing you lot ....

Funniest thing about this rant is that you had to include the word girl in brackets. In case we doubted you Dave. LOL.

Everything else was full of pants! Cheeky monkey!

I hadn't really thought about it, but if you want a hole-in-one a par 3 course is a great way to go hehe.

When I was in high school I played a par 3 course for kicks that I used to play when on the middle school golf team. There is one really short hole that you have to hit over water. I was playing alone and had people in front of me to wait for, so I hit several shots from the tee. The fourth one or so went in. I thought it was cool to make it, but of course it wasn't really a hole-in-one. I even saw my old middle school golf coach there and was tempted to tell him about it.

My first hole-in-one came over 12 years later.

I didn't know whether to laugh uncontrollably at the (girl), or feel incredibly guilty for the sri lankan boy jokes.

(You may have guessed that I chose the lol.....)
