Golf Digest has a great article in the current issue where they rank the best golf cities in the U.S. In fact, they assign a rank to all 330 communities in the U.S. that have a population of at least 50,000.

Here it is...http://www.golfdigest.com/cities/

My town came out pretty well - overall rank 104 - but ranked 63rd in Quality index - which I thought was fair. The rankings take into consideration public facilties only.

I live in Saginaw, MI. Rank 191, Quality 193. I also play in Jackson quite often actually, and I saw they are on the list at R 92, Q 187, as well as Flint R251, Q192, so I guess i am in a decent area.............

Much as it bums out a Bama fan, Auburn/Opelika (I think of the RTJ course as being in Opelika alone!) was ranked the No. 1 golf city in the country. There's good golf to be played there, for sure. I was surprised the B'ham area finished that low, though. I always have a good time when I play there. Montgomery finished 88.

Bellingham, WA (closest US city to me where I'll actually play):

113th with a quality rating of 21. I had no idea the courses were rated so high. Funky.

My home town of Lima, OH is rated very well at 27th, with a quality rating of 81.

Where I live now Pittsburgh, PA is rated 220th, with a quality rating of 176. And Johnstown, PA is rated 10th, with a quality rating of 43. WOW!!!!

I see Panama City got #19. It probably would have been better once the Nicklaus course opens this fall at Bay Point Resort. The Lagoon Legends was re-built by Nicklaus Development. The rumors suggest because it was not making any money due to being one of the hardest courses in America.

Has anyone ever played Lagoon Legends in the past at Bay Point Resort in Panama City, FL?? I believe it was ranked the 2nd hardest course in America by Golf Digest a while back.......

Got the chance to play once there...... I lost 12 balls on the first 6 holes.... I was a +15 handicap at that time and my drives were pretty consistent down the middle that day. Yes, you could drive it straight down the middle and lose your ball in the offset-cut rough. There were some many hills and mounds, you could not see your drives land. The rough was so deep, I think the Navy S.E.A.L.S. at the local Naval Depot trained there for cover and concealment......

Now, I get to save $125 this fall to play. My wife isn't going to like that.....

I'm a member at the Champions Club at Hampton Creek. It's in the Ooltewah/Collegedale area. I play Black Creek whenever I can and believe it or not, I've been able to play the Honors twice:D. How about you?
