Got called to a "meeting" in the personel department and got escorted out the door. They dumped 19 engineers. After 22 years of working for them I'm now "retired". Probably a good thing. Very cold the way this is done though.

Hey man, sorry to hear. A little dignity could be employed in such situations. Actually, after 22 years of service, a lot of dignity could be employed. Hope you're OK.

Dayum, I am sorry to hear that "J". I do hope they gave you a nice severance package.

But look on the bright side, you and sssmokin can play all the golf you want now, :thumbs up:

All due respect to wbl, but the way he was escorted out, the fact that it was multiple people, and he said he was "retired" in quotes, I'm thinking he may not have been offered severance. They may have been "cutting costs" by getting rid of people who are making good money and will be due a nice retirement. It's not fair at all, but it's also not at all uncommon.

I hope that I'm completely wrong and that wbl was treated better than that. He's much too good of a guy to be treated any other way.

wbl, prayer sent your way, my friend...

14 weeks severance pay package. Will start my retirement and roll my 401K into a savings. My wife's insurance will pick me up... and if I need to I'll file bankruptcy LOL. I also have a pension there and another at Boeing. I am going to do more consulting work for my friend so all will work out. Now I can golf alot more.

And I don't have to envy sssmokin being retired either!

I go tommorrow night to pick up my huge metallurgical library I've built up at work and start my retirement paperwork.

I think I am going to like this.

I already told them if they need to "consult" with my to go through my friend's company (at $200 per hour) LOL. And boy are they going to be lost in regard to the metallurgical side of their business. They have NO one that knows jack about it.

I'll be fine.

Good to hear you'll be fine "J". And I don't blame you a bit about not offering to help them out. On second thought, since your friend charges $200.00 and hour, tell them you'll help them out, only charge them $175.00, :p

And we all call the guy that goes back to the office and guns a bunch of folks down and then pops his own top a nut job.......after reading a lot of little stories like this these days I wonder who's crazier..the guy that comes back with the gun or the guy that thought that calling you into a "meeting" and then tossing you out. J, hope all is well and if you want to work that something comes your way, until then, spend some quality time with your brother and the rest of your family.

Wife and sat down and figured this all out.

Applied for SS online

Will get my one pension in cash and pay off all loans other then house.

Will take my 401K and knock a bunch of the home loan and re-finance to make lower payments.

And with ss, my big pension and 401K (plus wife still working) we should be better off then we are now! PLUS I'll be retired.

And the 14 weeks of severance pay won't hurt either.

All is well..... :)
