I need some wedges...

I had a set recently put together, so I now have 2 gaming sets. However, I only have one set of wedges! So I've really been thinking about what I want from my wedges, and I've come to these conclusions

GW, 51/52 loft

I want 10* bounce at the MOST. Would REALLY prefer closer to 6. This is basically a full-swing club for me which I don't need to produce crazy spin off of, so a milled face might actually be more harm than good. Even so, I've been using a milled-score-lined CX Micro and I haven't had issues. What I'm saying is, I don't NEED face milling. Don't care either way.

SW, 55/56 loft

This is my fluffy chip club. My CX Micro is great. Milled score lines PREFERRED here, but again, from the lies I'd use this, I don't expect a lot of spin anyway. 10-14* bounce is ideal, and lower is considerable because I do like to open up my wedges. a LOT.

LW, 60 loft.

Almost NO bounce. 4 or less. I want to reward two good shots on a par five by throwing a dart from the fairway onto the green. Low bounce gives me the option to open up on the FAIRWAY, not just in the rough. I used to play a 588 DSG with 3* of bounce, and I LOVED it. Milled face would be GREAT here. I love my CX Micro.

I'm looking at the reid lockhart stuff, but I can't really make sense of the bounce angles. They have one set that has FOUR different bounce angles; some of which are 25*+.

Anyone familiar with a set of wedges that matches my needs? Or even just one that REALLY fits the bill?

some help... maybe

this is actually an are I spent a lot of time on lately. The bounce on the club is what prevents the club from sticking in. Supposedly, the more upright you swing, and bigger the divot you take the less bounce you want in the club. The more shallow you swing, or less divot you take, the more bound you want. At least thats the theory.

I play Cleveland CG 10's, and I really liked the DSG's as well. I was also thinking of switching my wedges as well. One of the biggest factors, that you never talked about, is the loft of your PW. That would dictate what you carry from that point on. I'm assuming you want 4 wedges?

There are new DSG's out, if you didn't know. They have a lot of new bounce variations, it seems like Cleveland got behind them.

I never believed in the SW per se, didn't think it was neccessary to carry a club that was only good in one type of lie. So I only carry three wedges, stock PW 45*, Cleveland CG 10 51* and Cleveland CG 10 57*; yes both of those are bent 1* strong, they both have 9* of bounce. Gives me some forgiveness (they were 2 dot, prior), and flexability if I have to play them out of soft lies.

I think you have a good plan of attack. Make sure you are comfident about your SW selection, as you thoughts suggest it's a specialist club; and lastly be sure to consider your PW as part of your wedge makeup, that will make a difference on the lofts you carry.

PW is 47. I use it almost exclusively as a 10-iron.

GW at 51/52 is mostly the same. An 11-iron.

My mind just wants to fly shots around the green more than run them out. If I ever do need a little runner, I have no problem using even a 9 iron to chip the ball onto the green and let 'er roll.

My 56 and 60 are made to achieve the same thing in different lies. The loft difference gives me another full-swing option from the fairway; another comfortable, smooth-swing distance.

That being said, 56 and 60 are the only wedges I really use for WEDGE play. I use the 52 occasionally for this, but would almost ALWAYS want to loft the ball up.

edit-

David, those lofts/lies are PERFECT, but I do not want rusty wedges.

I'm in the same boat. My PW is 48. My AW matches my set and is really an 11 iron. It's spec is 52/5, but I have it at 53/6 - I can do a lot of things with this club, and it's forgiving on full shots since it's a normal looking iron. Then, I have a CX-Micro 60/9 bent to 58/7.

If I'm going to play a course where I think I need more bounce, I've got a PCF-Micro 52/5 bent to 55/8 and a Maltby 1.62 wide-sole 60* MALTBY M-SERIES 1.62 UC SOLE WEDGE HEADS - still not a ton of bounce, but the wide sole of the 60 acts kind of similar and it works for my game

Just to give a personal opinion here. Not sure your experience with the bounces on the wedges you mention. If you definitely intend to play the 60* with the 56* together, I would concentrate on what you will need to suffice your sand game and FW's for the 56* and not what you would need to open up the club. Either that or rethink your bounce and limit it to no more than the 10* range. My 56* has 13* of bounce, which I like and can be opened up when it is even remotely sitting up in the rough. I like it that way because it will not go under the ball in the rough. However based on experience and practice I would be nuts to even consider to use it open out of anything other than rough. If I need that it is simply better to use the 60* flush or open. This from one who has 8* on the 60* and 64* and has no problem opening them up on even harder surfaces. Although had they had 4* on the 60* or 64* at the time, I likely would have got them. I just didn't see that the 8* limited my shots.

My prior 56* was 10* I believe, and that was probably the most I would open up out of anything other than rough. Although it still had a tendency to go under the ball if I tried to do so out of the rough and was at least a good part of the reason I dumped the club. Granted this all depends on how you play your shots, as well as what what your fairways are like, but for me I see no reason to have anything outside of 12-13* on my 56* as it will allow me to do out of the rough what I can do with the 60* flush or open off the fairway. If in the FW or harder surfaces, I go to the 60*.

Out of the sand I usually actually now use my 51* or 60* depending on the conditions for most of the courses up here (many times hard and packed and actually now use a modified sand swing more closely to my pitching for this, or 51* in softer sand blasts), however when I play elsewhere I may use my 56* in the sand for certain shots.

Really though, I would see no reason to get less bounce on a 56* wedge if you intend to carry a 60* as well, unless your fairway conditions call for such. I think the more bounce just makes the club more versatile out of the rough, which that is it's primary use outside of distance regulation shots.

Isn't that neat we can all get what we want with customization these days? I have one of the first run Ping Eye 2 L wedges from 1985 with 61* of loft and 18.....yes 18* of bounce. Here in Florida we have this POS fluffy shugar sand in most bunkers and it takes the phrase 'explosion shot' to a new meaning. Pretty much every single bunker shot is semi-buried/fried egg. I do have a Ping M/B with around 6* of bounce that I use when in firmer bunkers so I can actually try and spin the ball a bit, but thank goodness you can pretty much get what you want these days!
