Since I've been practicing a lot with my wedges my ballstriking with my irons has been getting better. Not just consistancy wise but the actual strike entirely.
Today I may have hit the most purely struck shot I ever have, or at least realized it... Short downhill par 3 to an elevated well bunkered green. I can hit it with a full GW, PW but elected to knockdown a 9iron. I put my ball down with no tee on a small area that wasn't torn up by divots. There just happened to be a large plop of bird$hit just behind my ball, horizontally. Anyway, I hit the shot, almost felt a bit thin and it hit the center of the green, low trajectory and spun back 3-4ft.
My divot was the size of a dollar bill, perfect, and started nearly 3 inches past the bird$hit. This is what impressed me. I may have to start trying to use a tee or another ball or something at the range to see where my divots are. I hit a few more shots today on that trajectory, I like it.
