ok guys, heat up the dvd player and break out yer copies of caddyshack, i know its the official bible of this place (no sling not getting religious or political on ya)

watching it today i noticed something

as the group comes to the last hole in their match, it is announced that the match is even , now, not positive what format they are playing i realize that the match was a draw and that noonan, dangerfield and chase didn't win,
assuming that everyone was laying the same on the green

dr. beeper (awesome safari hat guy)----- misses his putt
chevy chase---------misses his putt
ted knight----------makes his putt (billy barule)
danny noonan-------makes his putt

draw? yes? no? maybe so?

and to further justify, chase speaking to noonan before his putt
"don't worry, if you miss it we loose"

just thinking along the same lines, if you make it, we tie
?????????????

You know, to my eternal shame I've never seen this movie!

But that's about to be remedied...just ordered it on Amazon.

Just had a look on IMDB...there's a thread there that asks the very same question you did..

the answer posted was

"I've wondered this myself before, nad found an answer i can live with a while back.

You're right to a point.
But if you listen again, when it comes to Danny's putt, the bet is changed.
I think it's Rodney or Chevey that changes the bet to "Double or nothing".

They are now betting everything on whether Danny makes the putt or not.
It is no longer about the score of the match, but all on if Danny sinks the
putt or not.
If he misses, they lose everything...if he makes it..they win. "

Not having seen the film, I can't comment.

kilted is correct. No one wanted to play more so they changed the bet to be all on the final putt.

I can't believe there is still a golfer that has not seen the movie. LOL

Noonan's putt was for Bird. Everyone else made bogey (I'm assuming, the Judge made a par, as the scorer never announces that he made bird).

Noonans putt gives them the win. As the ball falls in the hole, you can hear him yell "It's a Birdie!!!".

That's my take. I've thought about this too, Gun. It's not overly clear.

I think KA has it right. It's the double or nothing bet on Noonan's putt.

For a while my brother-in-law lived in the same little appartment building as Lacy Underall. I visited once but didn't see her. I guess she didn't look nearly as good as she did when she was in the movie.

Good clarification, but just to throw a wrench into the whole thing...

Noonan's putt shouldn't have counted. I believe the ball has 10 seconds to fall into the hole on its own. If not then it needs to be picked up and putted again for another stroke. Also, an outside agency cannot cause the ball to fall into the cup and Bill Murray's explosive endeavors were certainly the cause of the ball falling into the cup and definately and outside agency. I forget the rule number but I'm sure someone will be bored enought to look it all up.

Sorry, but after the match, Chase and Dangerfield had to pay up after Judge Snells busted out the rule book.

I believe the 10 second rule only applies after you have reached/addressed the ball. So if it hangs on the lip and you walk in circles for 30 seconds and it falls, you are fine.

This is why most pros will stare in disbelief for several seconds before approaching the tap in.

I could have sworn it was because they were saying to the caddy "That didn't break left you moron!"

Sounds like what I would say for sure. Not to get this started but that movie has more great lines then any ever.
