So my last four rounds are: 86, 77, 86, 84 - that's +40 for four rounds of golf. Gentlemen, that constitutes a massive turd slide. In fact as I recall that's about as bad a run of form as I can remember. Ima ina slump! :(

I'm not sure what's happening exactly. My timing is out, my short game sucks, loads of tension in my hands and arms etc. The hook has creeped back into my game and if it's not a hook, its a block. AAGGGGHHHHH! Oh, and outside the 77 (where I pitched and putted like Tiger) I am also have a ton of bad luck. I keep going back to my sticky on Why I play golf. Not so much fun when there are a shit load of doubles on the card.

Anyway all is not lost. I was up at 5.30 this am and spent 35 mins hitting 25 six irons on the range. A gorgeous sunrise, no breeze, just me and my six iron, it was beautiful!

I figured a few things out and started rocketing the final few. It's not perfect but some stuff to work on. Ima planning the same every morning this week.

Presidents Day on Saturday. I need a good round to break my slump!

If this is all talk to get an increased handicap allowance ahead of the match, it won't work.

Even if it's legit, no increased handicap!

Otherwise, I hope you get it all sorted ahead of the Pres Cup - good luck in that!

Cheers Sling. Kick a dude when he's down, whydoncha! I'll spread them and you can take a run....

Puff, puff, puff (Sling's 50 yard run up)
Thwackkkk (the almighty sound of leather on testicle)
Oh Deary me (the last thing IG says before passing out in pain)
Ho Ho Ho (Slings Hearty belly laugh)
Knee naw knee naw (Sound of ambulance arriving)

Enough already!

I'll be back :)

Golf is a funny game. Not really funny ha ha, but funny in a sick perverted, kick you when you're down then give you a glimmer of hope sort of way.

Feel free to make a stop in TX while you're down, I'll get my boots out just in case. :p

IG, you have taken to Twain-like plot development to gain entrance to our hackers-only club? Sad; truly sad.

Here are some valuables to stick in your pocket and finger between now and your next round:

Slumps are a viscious cycle. They are created by one or two baddish rounds that shake your confidence in your game. Once this is done, you have tension in your swing, bad imagery before the swing, changes in a solid setup, far too many swing thoughts, and a tendency to think technique on the course instead of feel.

Look at it this way. You had a great game before this stretch shook you. So, now you are out effing with the swing that gave you so many low scores? Try some John Jacobs advice and go play a round with " 2 turns and a swish". In other words, play each shot with nothing more than a turn back, a turn through, and a clubhead swishing in between. NO TECHNICAL THOUGHTS! NO WHERE IS IT GOING? THOUGHTS. Turn back, swish with a turn through. That's it. No positions. The backswing is nothing more than a turn to clear the body out of the way for the club. The forward swing is nothing more than a turn to clear the body out of the way of the club. That's it. No positions. No planes. No bad mental imagery.

I guarantee this will clear things up for you.

WTF indeed ?!?!?!

Shooting 79, 81,80, 78, 79 does not entitle you to claim to be a hacker! Go on, away with you! This is an exclusive club of crap golfers and, quite frankly, you and IG have no place here! Off with you, before I skelp yer lugs!

Cheeky gatecrashers...ah'll tell yir maw an paw.

Cheers BD, you're 100% right. Too much junk upstairs. It's hard to clear that stuff out, but I like that 2 turns business. Kinda keeps it simple enough, even for an Irishman!

Heh. Be careful with yeh Eerish-bashin' yeh acker-poser. Me 4 fadders were Eerish afore deh started layin wid de natives ere in de land o milk-bags an' honey-thighs.

Hope the 2-turn/swish treatment helps. My problem is junk upstairs too, so this advice works on the Irish-twice-removed too.

Cheers

Neal,

In two weeks you have played min 12 rounds of golf!!! Your issue sounds like too much golf! When I was your age, I was the same. I got a bit burned out and lacked focus, enthusiasm etc. Just playing for the sake of it is hard on concentration.

Take a few days off, come back refreshed and focused.

Yesterday, one of the regulars in my foursome said,

"The last time I took a lesson, the pro said I was hitting them so bad that I should take two weeks off and then quit".

I like that line very much, but keep forgetting to use it when the opportunity arises.

I think it came from the Bobby Jones film, where the dour Scottish caddy is watching one of the club members trying to hit the ball over the water.

I like that movie, some good lines in it.
