You may remember Jarrod Lyle. He has had an ongoing battle with Leukemia.

A few years back he was forced to leave the PGA tour due to a recurrence of Leukemia. After winning that battle he couldn't return to the PGA tour (as I understand it) he had lost his status.

The news is just out that he has returned to hospital following a suspected third bout of leukemia. His family released this statement:

“A routine blood test conducted earlier this week returned abnormal results and Jarrod was immediately admitted to hospital and placed under the care of his previous medical specialist. He will remain there at least until a full diagnosis has been made.

“He has undergone several tests, and will have several more in the coming days. At this point, we have not yet received complete test results, so there is no definitive diagnosis and we do not have an agreed treatment plan.

“We cannot speculate about anything until we get more information. We are grateful to be surrounded by incredibly supportive people and we truly appreciate your consideration and respect for our privacy at this time.”

Poor guy. Hope he can bounce back to full health.

Unfortunately, diagnosis has been made. A Facebook post by Jarrod today.

"Sadly it's all 100% true - another cancer diagnosis. I'm determined to be positive through this (as much as I can) so here is my last moment before the chemo is hooked up. Could be one of my last pics with a 'full' head of hair! #f**kcancer"

Hope it's third time lucky.

I haven't updated this thread for a while but I've been following Jarrod's condition through his (and later his wife's) updates on social media.

Jarrod has twice battled and beaten acute myeloid leukaemia — once in 1998 and again in 2012. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of his medical team, the fight against the 3rd outbreak hasn't gone well and his condition worsened to the point of inevitability.

Such a sad, sad, state of affairs.

This is the latest update by Jarrod's wife, Briony:

"My heart breaks as I type this message. Earlier today Jarrod made the decision to stop active treatment and begin palliative care. He has given everything that he’s got to give, and his poor body cannot take anymore. We’ll be taking him closer to home in the next couple of days so he can finally leave the hospital.

There is simply not enough time to get this message out to everyone individually, so for some of our really close friends and family I cannot apologise enough for breaking the news in this way. We have done our best to ‘control’ the narrative surrounding Jarrod’s illness and treatment, and as more and more people become involved in this final process I’m not sure how much longer this development will remain private.

Jarrod knows he is loved, and the thousands of prayers and well wishes that have been sent his way have kept him going through some incredibly tough times. But he has reached his limit, and the docs have finally agreed that they can no longer strive for a positive outcome.

My focus as of today is on our girls and doing whatever I can to get them through the challenges ahead. Jarrod will be closer to them very soon, and will spend as much time as he can with them.

When it’s appropriate, I will post details of a memorial service. In the meantime we ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time.

We all face challenges as we walk through life. When we think our own are too much, just look around. Others are facing issues far worse.
In 1977, I slid off a building and landed on my feet on frozen ground. The leg bone, where it connects with the knee, exploded. Stuck in a hospital bed, wife and two small daughters at home and suddenly unable to work, it seemed the easy thing to do was feel sorry for myself. Then they moved a roommate in with me. He had been injured in an auto accident a few years before, breaking his neck and was a quadriplegic. He was able to swing his arm, but had very little control over them. Couldn't poop or pee without help. This kid shaved himself with a blade razor. Back then, we could smoke in hospital rooms. He smoked. Lit his own cigarettes. (Scared me to death he would burn the hospital to the ground.) Wow! What an awakening. I would recover from a broken leg. He would never recover from his injuries. Still, he was constantly joking and doing things with his body that should have been impossible. They would strap a fork to his wrist and he would feed himself. During every meal he would stick himself in the face with the fork, sometimes bringing blood. Would not allow the nurses to help!
This young man and his family have faced things they never asked for. I'm certain the tears have been shed as they have watched husband and father taken from them by an evil disease. The wife and girls will never fully recover. They, certainly, will never forget.
Tomorrow, my back will hurt and my arthritis will be nagging. Never will I complain! I will be playing golf while this family... and thousands of others... suffer devastating losses. May the Good Lord reach our his hand and give them strength.
