This is a sorry tale...some going to run up $13.7m debt...especially when his earnings were $23m.
So in effect this guy has spent nearly $40m. Jeez....
Nov. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Masashi Ozaki, the golfer known as
''Jumbo'' because of the length of his tee shots, has been given
protection from creditors owed 1.6 billion yen ($13.7 million),
Kyodo News International said, citing his lawyer.
The 58-year-old, who was granted protection by the Tokyo
District Court on Oct. 18, is unable to repay his creditors, his
lawyer, who wasn't identified, told Kyodo. A portion of the debt
will be written off and a new repayment schedule lasting several
years will be worked out, it said.
Ozaki, a pro baseball pitcher for two years in the 1960s,
is his country's most successful golfer, having topped its money
list 12 times and amassed 2.7 billion yen in prize money, more
than any other Japanese golfer. He collected 94 Japanese Tour
wins, including five Japan Open titles, and finished eighth at
the 1973 Masters Tournament and sixth at the 1986 U.S. Open.
